This is a section for religion, so why are there so many Athiest answering questions, and sometimes very negatively, about religion?? If you don't believe , and don't care to believe, then why bother??

Athiesm is NOT a religion, so why are you bothering the people who are religious, no matter what they follow??

Many of us would not go to forums and discussion panels just to harrass people about things we do not agree with, so why do some of you feel the need to harrass believers??

I asked because my husband is an Athiest, and he is very respectful of my beliefs. He has no interest in religion and he would not, and does not bother to come to these type of sites. So I am very educated on the matter.
I am all for debates, but you have to admit there are aome very rude comments made about questions asked. Making a rude comment doesn't invite discussion.

I would not go to a site for Athiest and make rude comments about what they discuss. I was jsut curious as to why it's done here.
No hard feelings............

"This is a section for religion, so why are there so many Athiest answering questions, and sometimes very negatively, about religion?? If you don't believe , and don't care to believe, then why bother??"

Regardless of belief (or the lack of), religion still has an impact on everyone's life. How many people are being robbed blind by the church of scientology? How many bills have been introduced to the federal government, that only serve to further religious agendas? How many times must people defend solid science against thinly veiled religious intrusions in our public schools? How many people died in NYC on 9-11, due to religious fanaticism? The holocaust was the result of religious hatred. The list goes on and on...

With the exception of the trolls, no one is 'bothering the people who are religious.' You're on a message board meant for sharing knowledge, not stroking egos. There is no reason why a person who has read and studied various faiths, texts, and ceremonies shouldn't answer questions...regardless of whether their knowledge agrees with the belief of the person asking the question.

The best answer that I ever read to this question (and believe me...it's asked so often that we drink when we see it), was from a christian. He said that he learned more about his faith because of those who disagreed with it. In bible study, he was only ever agreed with, but this type of forum challenged him to look deeper. Seems like a good use of time to me...

EDIT: "I would not go to a site for Athiest and make rude comments about what they discuss. I was jsut curious as to why it's done here. " This just illustrates the point. This section isn't just for those who are religious or spiritual...it's a section to share information on those topics.

Why are overly sensitive religious believers here on a question and answer site that canvasses a broad range of views?

If you are simply seeking a narrow confirmation of what you already believe, you are in the wrong place.

Yahoo Answers is a Question-Answer format. If you don't want answers, then don't ask questions.

[Edit] No hard feelings my end either.

But if you want to put questions ABOUT religion or spirtuality into an open community you should not complain about being bothered or harassed simply because some of the answers express views different to yours. "Negative" is a legitimate answer to some questions. Even "religious" questions.

Do not tolerate abuse (and there is some of that on this site), but a difference of point of view is not abuse.

I am not an atheist, but I will say that the term atheist means someone who does not believe in religion. Thus, the term is still related to religion. The religion section is not only for believers of religion, but anything related to religion at all, which can include atheists.

Is this the 3rd or 20th time this was asked this evening?

One, questions asked in R&S are shown in Society and Culture and on the main level. I rarely, if ever, am actually in R&S.

Two, many questions in R&S are addressed specifically to atheists.

Three, the actions of believers directly affect the lives of me, my family and my friends, not to mention the rest of society.

Edit:
Four (forgot this until I started reading other answers), Christians and other believers have extreme misconceptions about atheists.

Edit 2:
Five, Christians are constantly calling atheists snide and immature (and that's nice compared to what other Xians say), and I believe it's time to stop the persecution of atheists in our society.

Actually it's spelled Atheism (as some Atheists informed me once!), and the category is Religion and SPIRITUALITY. It doesn't have to be considered religion to be called Spirituality. Just because one doesn't believe in religion doesn't mean they aren't spiritual. Obviously, you need to educate yourself a little bit on the definitions of some words.

If a question is such that I can answer it despite being an atheist, I will answer it = bottom line.

Dooder, if atheism is a religion, so are any and all beliefs common to a group of people. Come off it.

Religion is rampant in my country and therefore a political fact of life. I am here to protect my secular republic and have fun while doing so.

I feel sorry for you if you think disagreement is harassment.

Besides, it's Religion and Spirituality, not just Religion. Anyone willing to debate or learn about religion is welcome on this forum

Well, what I do is simple: Any questions that are asked that pertain to atheists, I don't answer them - period. I only answer questions that pertain to people inquiring about the bible or God, etc. - Christianity. If atheists want to answer these kinds of questions with sarcasm and want to show their immaturity by making snide, derogatory and slanderous remarks, then let them - doesn't bother me a bit. I just know how to totally avoid questions that I care not to answer - that's all - :) Just simple common sense.

i'm no atheist but sadly, there is this thing called "freedom of speech" and the right to comment.

the moment you put out a question in the yahoo answers, it means that you are asking advice from any person who wishes to go out of their way to enlighten you.

I've heard that the prevalent reason why most atheists became atheists in the first place is because of the family disharmony, to say it tactfully.....

they just tend to pour out their frustrations in God because they became disillusioned at an early age and they demand that God show up to them when it's a two-way street. He can reach out to you if you can reach out to him in your heart....

It's their opinions. that shouldn't influence you or me cuz to us, God is helpful in our own personal lives, regardless of what has happened.

God Bless.
