The best you can do is get a DVD calibration disc (like DVD video essentials) and adjust brightness and contrast.

To do full calibrartion, you need to know how to enter the service mode of your TV, you need some pretty expensive equipment, and some training, otherwise it is very easy to mess up your TV completeley.

The best way to do it was go get a DVD called AVIA and play that on your DVD player connected to the HDTV. That will aid you in the best Picture Quality for your new set. It also works on CRT, Plasma, DLP and LCD.
