I've been on first dates where we go to: 1. the movies or 2. Starbucks to get a coffee...

Find out a bit more about your date and arrange to do something you could both enjoy.
For example if the date is an athletic type:consider going ice skating, bush walking, playing mini golf, going swimming at the public pool, go bowling, going cycling together.
If your date is a down to earth and a quiet, intellectual person:
A picnic in the park or on the beach, dine at a nice Chinese/Italian/Indian restaurant, visit museums or art galleries or go to the theatre to see a play.
If your date is a wild and partying type:
Go to a decent nightclub with karaoke singing, go to a rock concert.

The coffee date makes sense to me. Gives you much more of a chance to talk than does a movie date.

i don't like movies for a first date because they don't give you a chance to get to know the other person. starbucks is a little too much conversation for a first date. i would go to a concert or sporting event.

Go for a picnic, or a long walk. This will give you a better chance to actually talk to each other and get to know each other. It will give you plenty of time to try out all your incredible witty lines you have rehearsed for this very moment. You DO have some incredible witty lines, RIGHT? :P
I dunno.... ask your date what he / she would like to do. It's always good to allow your partner to make some decisions. It makes them think that you respect their opinions. Once you have tricked them into believing that about you, you're half way there !! LOL.... just kidding man....
Just get out there and have fun. Enjoy yourselves. You're young.... you LUCKY LUCKY buggers !! :)
