would that then make jealousy a virtuous quality to possess? Would the world be a better place if we were all just a little more jealous? Would God be pleased with our efforts to live our lives according to the example He has set for us?

According to the literature, this is one extremely jealous god. Really jealous, of other gods in particular. "Thou shalt have no other gods before me!" "No idols!" "No golden calf!" "No Baal!"
Kind of like a really insecure mate...you know the kind. I don't get why something that is supposed to be perfect would care, but then again, this god is nothing if not perfectly imperfect, cruelly loving, and rather stupidly omniscient.

The God of the bible claims there are other Gods in existence but he is truely the only true God and the others are weaker Gods.
Example, when God created our solar system and humanity he said something like he liked what he saw was good. If he said that then he must have been talking to some other Gods.
I forgot but in the bible passages there were mention of this God talking about other Gods. as well.
So, there are many Gods in existence. Another example, holy ghost is a God, Jesus is a God that existed without a beginning.
These 3 entities talked to each other as if they are completely different individuals. Different identities make one individual different from another and that is what make all of us different individuals.
This is what makes a God different from another God. That makes more than one God in existence but then all these ideas are men made up inventions.
Humans are the creator of all these imagined entities. Humans can use their mind to create almost infinite stories and concepts and ideas. Making them truely Gods.

Even if there was a God, how could he possibly be jealous? He is supposed to be omnipotent and all-knowing. There would be nothing that anyone or anything else could possibly possess that he doesn't already have/know.
So no, jealousy in large amounts especially is not a desirable quality. But he does not exist anyway so there's no point in worrying about it. >.<

God does indeed say He is a jealous God....but it is not the same definition that we think of when we think of jealousy. It is important to understand how the word jealous is used. How it is used to describe God is different from how it is used to describe the sin of jealousy. When we use the word jealous, we use it in the sense of being envious of someone who has something we don't have. A person might be jealous or envious of another person because he or she has a nice car or home. it is not that God is jealous or envious because someone has something He wants that He does not possess. Exodus 20:4-5 says, "You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God..."
God is talking about being jealous if someone gives something that belongs to Him to another. God is speaking of people making idols and bowing down and worshiping those idols instead of giving God the worship that belongs to Him alone. God is possessive of the worship and service that belong to Him. It is a sin to worship or serve anything other than Him. So it is a sin when we desire, or we are envious, or we are jealous of someone because he has something that we do not have. It is a different use of the word jealous when God says He is jealous. What He is jealous for belongs to Him; worship and service belong to Him alone, and are to be given to Him alone.

Jealousy is a human trait, for which god cannot posses. It is said that he is a jealous god because He resembles a jealous person based on his desire for him to be the only God in our life.
This is just another way for people to acknowledge that he is the only one.

That means that God will destroy all false gods that people tend to come up with. Like Jim Jones, and the Waco disaster, and the Halley's comet bunch as well as many others I don't know of. Jealousy causes pain, misery, suffering and death.

Only perfect being have right to be Jealous because He is the Creator of everything. Jealosy is directly associated with feeling of possessiveness.
If we man feel jealous without really possessing anything, then that is wrong.

In talking with humans YHVH had to use human language. Thus some words are used somewhat poetically, and not literally in the sense we first think.
