The Bible is iffy to read literally. If done so, it also condones slavery, not eating any meat, not shaving, and the subservience of women. I totally agree. The literal is taken and the meaning is disregarded. It's dispicable what people claim to do in the name of God.

When you were growing up, did your parents not reprimand you when you did something wrong? They admonish you for your errors, and instruct you in the proper ways of doing things.

Why did they do this? Because they love you and want what's best for you. If your parents did not love you, or didn't care about your upbringing/well being, it is likely they would not admonish you for your mistakes, thus you would not learn from them.

Therefore, while I cannot speak for the impetus of all Christians, I can speak for proper ones when I tell you that the reason some share their moral judgments with you is because they care about you and want you to to do the right thing. If they did not have compassion for you, they wouldn't care what you did, thus they would not attempt to correct you if they witnessed you doing something immoral.

Science of Homosexuality Takes a Backseat to Blind Faith
http://www.livescience.com/health/070320_bad_homosexuality.html

The Bible is rather clear that homosexuality is an "abomination," as stated in Leviticus 18:22, just a few lines below the edict in Leviticus 11:10-12 stating that eating shrimp is an abomination. The crustacean passage is not much of any issue for most people, hence no demonstrators picketing Red Lobster with dire warnings that the April all-you-can-eat shrimp fest may trigger Armageddon.

It's extremely open just to state "Christians." It'd be more accurate to say "some." Otherwise, people may accuse you of overgeneralization. Some people are taught to look at the words.. others divulge into a deeper meaning. It depends on who you are.. people have different perspectives to suit their own purposes. Some see the literate meaning and others look at passages in light of other passages. The faith has a unified purpose (in a similar light) but there will always be differing eyes when we examine the Bible. That's just the way I see it.. We need to see past the words- to look at every passage by referring to another. One cannot simply let the words run through the mind and assume the literal meaning is the right one.

My guess as to why Christians do that, is because it makes them have to change things that they don't want to except from their New Testament. Like the passage where a person is in adultery if they remarry while their X spouse is alive .

So it's easier to point out the faults of others then deal with whats wrong with themselves.

You are making a judgment with this question! Those preachers do so by using one line here and there in the bible, but this is not Christian, these are the new comers who try to fill people with their mentality in order to make money. And there's proof, and put on tv as documentaries, to show how that works!

Because they have as yet not been truly born again by the water and the Spirit. They always try to live by the law, but fail hopelessly all the time harming Christianity.

The only way is by the gospel of the water and the Spirit, where Jesus took all our sins away.

Of course not all Christians do that. Most Christians are loving and compassionate people, who do charitable works to help others and also, Christians as a group donate more money to charities than any other group.

God loves only those who obey Him and His word; those who are born again in Christ. God is not only a God of love, but also a God of wrath who takes vengeance upon those that do not obey Him and know not His word - those that choose to take pleasure in their sin rather than to follow God. That's the reason. If God was only a God of love and knew no wrath, then He would not have punished all those in the bible that denied him and took pleasure in their sin, such as the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah or Esau whom God clearly hated.

The misconception in this world today is that most everyone sees God as ONLY a God of love, but at the same time, they don't believe God is a God of wrath, when His scriptures truly and clearly state that He is.

Rom 2:5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

Eph 5:6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
Col 3:6 For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:

2Th 1:7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
2Th 1:8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
2Th 1:9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

Get the idea now? :)

the same reason non-christians attack parts of christianity while ignoring teachings like forgiveness, patience, repentance, dont lust, dont hate etc.

ex, making an issue about evolution so they don't have to stop watching porn,
making an issue about old testament laws given to the jewish people specifically so they can ignore the part about loving your neighbors, or dont be greedy.
thats a bunch of teachings that american society cannot accept, since just like some comedians say, america is a big shopping mall. when you are raised in america with the american dream in mind, the moment you hear something from jesus like "hard for a rich person to enter heaven" well, it really ticks them off, since it will destroy their dream.. their american dream of having what they want, buying what they like... since your focus for finances should be to seek and help others in need. kinda like africa or even the homeless in the streets.

and no, giving me examples of times when you helped them once in a while doesn't count.
its not about a little charity a day. its about dedicating your life for others.. that is something many americans cannot handle since they have been raised from childhood to work hard so you can buy what you want..

how much money do you get monthly and how much do you need for food shelter and clothing.
you dont really need alot of the other things like a bunch of minutes on your cellphone and all that stuff unless it is necessity for business.
america has lots of cool toys, ipods that cost more than hundreds cellphones that cost 50 bucks when you can go by with something cheaper...
clothes,,, oh dont get me started on that one...
shoes.. oh that hit the spot... people in my country don't usually own more than 1-2 pairs.. in america i know people who have a closets stuffed with shoes.
how much money do americans spend on entertainment anyway?
tickets to games, dinner outside, golf, etc.. i dont really need to list all of them. the point is, most americans can hardly even do a simple 10% dedication for helping others much more increase it more and more...
