I think a knowledge of what a yoke does is needed here. As a young child, I worked with my dad in the log woods, and at times we'd yoke 2 mules together inorder to pull a heavy load. When we take Christ's yoke upon us, He alone pulls the load, because OUR yoke isn't mentioned.
Matt 11:28-19, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you REST. Take my yoke upon you, AND LEARN OF ME; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find REST unto your souls. FOR MY YOKE IS EASY, AND MY BURDEN IS LIGHT".
This is saying, Not of works, lest any man should boast.
You can find his rest described in the book of Hebrews 4:3-10: "For we which have believed do enter into REST", "There remaineth therefore a REST TO THE PEOPLE OF GOD", "For he that IS entered into HIS REST, he also hath ceased from his OWN works, as God did from his". Notice it is the people of God who still need to enter into His Rest.
Hebrew 4:4, "For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did REST the seventh day from all his work".
I think it interesting that the mark 666 is composed of the number 6. God hadn't finished his work on the 6th day, but now, "It is finished". The number six in 666 looked like a cross; I think that is also very interesting.
Jesus said, "Take my yoke upon you, and learn OF me"; he didn't say learn about me, but learn from me. John 6:45, Jesus said, "It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught OF God"; John 14:26, Jesus said, "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit....HE SHALL TEACH YOU ALL THINGS".

Mat 11:29 "Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and YOU SHALL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.
Mat 11:30 "For My yoke is easy, and My load is light." (NASB)
The Messiah is stating a quote from Jeremiah in reference to the Torah or "law" (instructions, aim, or goal is a much better translation) the "ancient paths and the good way":
Jer 6:16 Thus says the LORD, "Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, Where the good way is, and walk in it; And you shall find rest for your souls. But they said, 'We will not walk in it.'
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
The way, the truth, and the life are all pertaining to the Torah. The Messiah is the Word, He is the Truth, the living Torah.
Psa 119:142 Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth.
"law" Strongs 8451. towrah, to-raw'; or torah, to-raw'; from H3384; a precept or statute, espec. the Decalogue or Pentateuch:--law.
Elohim says His Torah (Instructions of YHVH) is not too difficult.
Deu 30:10 if you obey the LORD your God to keep His commandments and His statutes which are written in this book of the law, if you turn to the LORD your God with all your heart and soul.
Deu 30:11 "For this commandment which I command you today is not too difficult for you, nor is it out of reach.
Just like anything else in this life, an action is not too difficult if you have a sincere love for it.
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Jesus didnt say those doctrines were his yoke to begin with.
there is no confusion there.
understanding was not the yoke he was talking about anyway.
look at the context...
who was he talking to and when?
the jewish people who are being opressed by the romans. regular average people just trying to survive.
he wasnt talking to theologians, tv preachers, and your pastor or priest. he was talking to them..
so how relevant is the teaching to us?
in the age where people struggle to pay their bills, taxes are so high that it almost looks worse than roman taxation, people are sent to wars that they dont agree to.
well, you kinda notice the similarities and how you can benefit from that teaching...
read the story of shane claiborne irresistible revolution
might be one in the library.
he uses the example of 'the simple way" as a means of applying jesus teachings and seeing how light the burden really is.

Politics is part of satans world.
Jesus had nothing to do with politics.
He was sent for one reason.
To teach people about the "Good News"'
The coming of God's planned KINGDOM.
the Kingdom we pray for at Matthew 6: 9,10 and the one prophecied about at Daniel 2; 44.
Sometimes it seems hard to follow Jesus' way, but we must keep in mind...
(MATTHEW 28:19-20) Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded YOU. And, look! I am with YOU all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.”
"I am with you"...

Try this:
God is love .. and love is just another word for charity.
Anyone who manages to depart this earthly existence with at least some charity in their soul is not likely to suffer eternal damnation.
No law in that!

I'm not sure that I fully understand the argument between grace and good works. To me, they are intertwined. it's like trying to separate religion and politics. People think they do it, but the reality is, we are an integral people, linked, fused, bonded....in all things.

The law doesn't apply to us today. Jesus' death on the cross fulfilled the law.
