Is it a daily prayer that is meant for Mary's intercession, or is it is something of a special occasion. Just curious.

Please, no Catholic bashing.

It is a daily prayer in honor of Virgin Mary... As Arkangel Gabriel said to Joseph.. "And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women." Luke 1:28

*scratches head*
Never thought about it much.
I say it. The world stays together.
Seems to work.

Summer Breeze seems to think she knows me.
Augh, my heart has been pierced by an arrow!!!
*clutches dramatically at chest*

Some Catholics pray it daily. Others do not. The Pope made some rule that believing in any of the Apparitions of the Blessed Virgin is not necessary for our salvation. I'd have to look that up, of course, it was something I read ages ago.

for the record, RC are not the only type of Catholic. Greeks and Russians and Egyptians (to name a few) are even more madly in love with Christ's mom than the RC's are.

I am not Catholic, but there are good reasons for it.

One is humility. It's a feeling that one might need an intermediary to deal with God, and another is the feeling that a mother might understand more of their problem, and the third is that saying a prayer like the Hail Mary is repetitive... repetitive prayer is very traditional in many religions.

It has no meaning whatsoever. Prayer is a form of worship, and so, when an RC prays to Mary, they are worshipping her as if she was perfect - and she was not. Mary was a sinner like you and me. She cannot make intercession for anyone. Mary did not die on the cross for our sins nor did she perform miracles as Christ did and she cannot save anyone. She even called Christ her Savior. If she was perfect and could be man's intercessor, then why would she herself need a Savior?? Jesus Christ is the ONLY mediator between God and man. Nowhere in the bible does it state that Mary is the intercessor for man! It's merely a man-made ritual created by the RC church. Praying to another sinner - dead or alive - is idolatry and no one is to pray to anyone but God through Jesus Christ! In short, prayers to Mary fall on deaf ears - she does not hear them!

1Ti 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Heb 9:15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

The "Hail Mary" brings to mind God's most perfect creation ... Jesus' sinless humanity, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary ... and Mary's immaculately conceived, sinless motherhood, which was not only necessary for the purpose of our salvation, but was a requirement of her divine son Jesus, who would spend over thirty years with her, on this earth.

The "Hail Mary" prayer is God's reaffirmation of his divine plan for our salvation. It's totally scriptural, and it worked.

Whenever it is prayed, and for whatever purpose, it never fails to give honor and glory to God, who keeps all his promises, in a very loving and personal way, and who never fails to reward those he loves.

What is there to complain about?

I have great faith in the Rosary, it's power of prayer has puled me out of the worst problems imaginable.

Mary is the most blessed woman in the Bible, and did you know she is the only Woman written of in the Quran too?

To get a proper understanding, it is necessary we look at the scriptures for clarification.
(JOHN 14:6) Jesus said to him: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Jesus is the ONLY intercessor.

As some have stated , we pray to Mary as a way for her to intercede for us and ask God, instead of us approaching him directly.
She is also seen as a mother, guide and, she protects us (At least in Mexican culture).
We also pray to her as a way to honor her for carrying baby Jesus.

Now I'll go back to my Rosary...
