I keep hearing "God bless you" when someone knows nothing about me. A comment like "I'll pray to God for you" or "God bless your life" screams arrogance to me.

It's not hatred I feel towards them but pure annoyance.

One example: I don't go around saying "Buddha bless you!"

Why does it annoy you? I really appreciate when someone prays for me. They aren't necessarily assuming you are a Christian, either. I'm a Christian and I pray for Christians and non-Christians. Even if you aren't a Christian yourself, you have to admit that someone else's prayer couldn't hurt you. As a matter of fact, it will probably bring you blessings!

It is just a message of good will, if you choose not believe that God will bless you- that is your choice. Someone who cares about you would say this- it never ceases to amaze me that the same people that say they do not want to hear us say God bless you are USUALLY the same people that complain that we are judgmental. Interesting- you noticed I said usually, so I am not putting everyone in a box.

This is not meant as a comment to your faith in God or lack of whichever. It is confirming that the speaker professes a faith in a higher power. If it annoys you why not ask them to refrain from doing so.

You get annoyed when someone wants you to be blessed? If that really bothers you, you truly are in need of those prayers. Be glad that someone cares enough to even say it, let alone do it.

Blessings.

They probably DO know and think you need to be prayed for.
If not, just ignore it, or tell them kindly that you appreciate the thought but you happen to follow a different religion.

It's because 'May whatever omnipotent being you believe in bless you' doesn't roll off the tongue quite so easily. Just ignore it - if you don't believe in God, what difference does it make for someone else to pray to him/her/it on your behalf?

Anyway, to help even the balance, I'm going to curse you to Satan. ;)

Because that's the most common religion where you live most likely. You really should worry about other things, like Hillary Clinton running for president.

I think you are just being narrow minded sometimes. It's a warm greeting for Christians just like "Aloha" in Hawaii, "Al Salam" in Arab, "Mabuhay" in Filipinos, etc.

I think you are just bitter.

Personal Problems are not considered in this thread, if you would like to share your intimate intellectual experiences with someone, do not do it here, people might get offended :D

they claim to speak for a god

they usually hide behind religion

what they mean is....I hope you have a great day

it just sounds better if religious and "authorized" by a god
