A good song is "Back to the World" by The Street Dogs
Its a punk song about thier friend that was in the Army.

[Chorus]
I got to go back to the world
Back to my girl
Back to my family and kids
Have to go and see my home again
Don't want my life to end
Before my time is due

Just got the postal package from my wife and kids
It brings me comfort while I'm stuck in this desert mess
But don't get me wrong, perform my mission
Just sounding off on my homesick condition
Got to get out, a short timer, my heart it begs for home

[Chorus]

Seen many a firefight since we deployed out here
Learned how to survive with my friends
They're focus, adrenaline and fear
But the odds haunt me, hope I don't get hit
Be that body with a flag adorned to it
I'm gonna make it, the short timer, hellbent on going home

[Chorus]

I'm not a policy maker
Just a sworn-in order taker
Doing my best to stay alive
I'm gonna make it
To conus real soon
Hope some days still lie ahead for me

[Chorus]

I've gotta go back
Too short to turn back
Gotta go back
Back to the world again

When I am thinking about home, instead of listening to homesick music, I do just the opposite. I usually miss home enough to where a sad song along with a video clip is just gonna make me feel that much worse. Do something in the clip about home, but do it on the upbeat side. Sending him a clip of you guys on the beach to the backdrop of "Walking on Sunshine." That beats seeing clips of another missed birthday along with some sad Toby Keith song about the sacrifice we all make.

Send him something that lets him know you can't wait till the good times roll again, and that life around the house is so much better when he is home. We all have our different taste in music, so it would be irrelevant telling you what I listen to (besides I don't think a Tool clips would make a good family video). I am just saying it will make him feel better if it is more upbeat that homesick oriented. You know what he likes, or I am sure you two have a special "goofy" song. Run with it....

My mom made a tape of herself singing christmas carols along with Patsy Cline(Her favorite). She died a couple of years ago, and I still listen to it now and then. That was in 1982 when I was in the USMC..I heard her voice, and the songs she played around the house when I was growing up.She meant it as a joke but my freinds and I played it a lot. Like some others said, play songs you like together, and slip in a couple your son likes too.but if you can, put a message in here and there in your own voice, and your sons, That's the music he really wants to hear. If he has a favirite band, send their newest stuff,he probably hasn't heard it yet. Great Idea!

Try a motivating song or a patriotic song that will get his morale up. Its hard to choose one song but somthing that will lift him up and feel proud of what he's doing out there.

im out in Iraq right now and i dont really want to listen to love songs or sad songs about family,

Try, Eye of the TIger, Hero by Mariha Carry or, Hero by Enrique Iglesias..

Ummm lets see a couple songs that I can think of (for when my husband is deployed) is When I'm Gone by 3 Doors Down and Faith Hill's "There You'll Be".

I think any songs that have special meaning to the two of you would mean the most to him.

So Far Away by Staind is an awesome one. It's kind of slow, but not too sappy or anything and the words fit really well. We used it on one of our unit videos when we returned from Afghanistan

yeah songs that he liked here, he will like over there. i can tell you alot of them like rock. dont send him sad videos or songs. he knows you miss him. he doesnt need the extra saddness of seeing you guys on camera for 20 mins crying and saying how far away he is. i know it sounds harsh but you want to make him feel good and happy. not sadd. so send a pump up song, rock usualy gets you pumped, and video of how you guys are keeping busy and what nots. to show how far you would go for him and how far he has gone for US why not us I dare you by shine down.

Or try some overly stupid 80s rock song. like somthing form guitar hero 3 or like you spin me right round, somthing to make him laugh.

Enya can be good, you'd be suprised. When things get stressful, even fans of hardcore rap and metal dont mind listening to Enya. I've seen it before. I really dont know his taste though. It's very sentimental music in my opinion and its pretty soothing as well.
