True, the arts allow for abstract thought. Without it we would still be living in straw houses, crapping in a hole out back. While you could have some form of civilization, it would be much different than we have today.

The arts are a sign that the civilization has evolved to allowing the citizens enough free time and "profit" to be able to have fine arts.

In the short term survival of individuals, no. But in the survival of a whole civilization over the long time.. yes.

False. Food and water are required to keep you alive. The arts are there to entertain, amuse and sometimes inform but ya can't live by eating Picasso's.

I think it is true because without imagination and the arts we would still be in the stone-age batting each other silly and not progressing a whit!

You look at societies that are striving and they have a rich culture through the arts and education.

Artistic creativity gives birth to new ideas and inventions.
