well lets just say something happen and my views of God just turned overboard. i feel like God is evil right now and i'm trying desperately not to think that way. becuase i want go back to being a person that sees God is a loving person who really cares. i get all these images in my head of God putting me on this earth, giving me an ultimatum to either love him or burn for all eternity even though i never asked to be here (yes i know nobody asked to be born). i feel like God can pick me up hold me in the air and make my body twist in all kinds of shapes and sizes, or put me in a box and make me gag and sufficate for as long as likes me to. if youre a coldhearted athiest, then dont bother answering because i'm just looking for help, and not to be insulted. does anybody have anything to say or like any past expeirences that can relate. becuase i dont want to think like this anymore

I suggest that you go before God with what you have been experiencing. You need to allow Him to be in control and follow his will for your life. Christians do go through hard times. But, there is allways a reason. God may be teaching you a lesson or have a purpose for what is happening to you. Hold on and pray.

The images of the "God" that I have from my childhood give me the same feelings as you hold now. Why wouldn't they? I was told that "God" was watching everything I did and if I screwed up "He" was going to send me straight to "Hell" BUT, and this is the really scary part, "He" LOVES me.

How confusing a message is that for a person?

I understand your thoughts and feelings. I was taught to FEAR "God", which made me very angry at "God". There is a term for this, it's called spiritual abuse and it's done by people, not "God". Their motives are quite clear, they are manipulating you and using your fears of mortality to give themselves power.

SUSPECT anyone who threatens you with "fire and brimstone" to manipulate you into their idealolgy.

I don't know if I am an Atheist or a really suspicious Agnostic. I DO know that there was a time in my life I HAD to believe in something greater than myself and I had a very difficult time doing so when remembering the nonsense of my childhood. But I had to believe in something.

My "God" is LOVE, that's it, that's all.

It's a power greater than myself, it's available to all who seek, it's everywhere and it exists in everyone. The ONLY thing I have to understand about religion is to be quick to see where they are right. The messages of peace, love and helping others are great messages. Jesus, Bhudda, Ghandi, Sister Theresa were spiritual GIANTS but humans manipulate for their own benefit.

So lose the messenger but remember the message.

Peace.

People who don't believe in god are bullied more, especially when they are living in a country where the majority of people are believers. I remember a teacher of mines who claimed to be agnostic and most kids started laughing.

True, God could do all of these things, but that is the nature of Satan, not of God.

Gods is all-powerful, but He is also a God of love and restraint. Would a cruel and evil God as you mention send His only Son to be put to death to save mankind from sin?

I don't know what happened to make you change your views, but there is much evil in this world that is caused by sin and Satan. And unfortunately it is the nature of evil that the innocent suffer from it as well as the wicked.

Why does God allow the innocent to suffer at the hands of the wicked? There is a lot of speculation on that one, but it gives Him a reason to avenge the innocent, and shows the wickedness of the wicked by the works that they do.

Why are children killed by diseases, or at the hands of evil people? There is much speculation there too, but one clue is given in Isaiah;

Isaiah 57:1

1 The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come.

When great wickedness is about to strike, or if God is about to pour out His wrath against the wicked, in His mercy He will take away the righteous and the innocent so that they do not suffer from what is coming.

I don't know if this helps or not, but hopefully it will. If not, please feel free to write and I'll answer as best I can, ok?

I'm not religious but I do believe in God and I've felt the same way as you on occasion. It's not a simple question. Why do bad things happen to good people. I think the most important things to remember are you can never understand God or his ways but remember that he is pure Love.

He's not a bully. That's trying to relate something you can't understand with something you do. It's not that simple. Just try and have faith. Hard times make you stronger. I'm sure everything will become clear at some stage, it always has for me.

I personally believe hell is not where you go when you die if you don't believe. I think it is existence without faith. It's not hellfire, it's just hard, confusing and self-centered.

Take care,
Dave

I went through a similar faze in my relationship with the universe, and I admit, it is a doozy. Now,I am not sure if this will help you, but I have come to the conclusion, that God, is a person, who cares deeply about us. He/She is an artist, who gave us a great gift, free will. That means we aren't happy little robots running everything like clockwork. However, it comes at a price. We must then take the responsibility for our actions, we can not just blame God, or the Devil, or whoever you want to pick for your woes. The world is in bad shape, and it is our fault. Seems all bad right now, huh? But, there is hope. It also means, the triumphs, like solving disease, human rights, and going to the moon, all the great achievements of mankind, are ours. No, we are not gods, and I don't want us to become gods. We are mortals, capable of acts of creation that are a reflection and an act of worship to the being who created us. To me God is not a bully, God is an artist, in fact The Artist, who has set in motion a work of wondrous beauty. I once asked myself, "Can God Create a mountain so big He/She cannot move it?" After careful reflection, I have come to the conclusion, that we are that mountain, we are the ones that can not be moved. If we love Him/Her it is because we choose to. And that is a great gift. God could do all those things, but He/She chooses not too, because of his great love and compassion for us. I am not sure if this will help you or not, but it has helped me.

Your feelings, doubts and fears are NOT uncommon among God's children. Even many of His children that are in the Bible felt that way. ...like Job, the children of Israel in the wilderness, some prophets, etc.

A great book recently written can be of great help. It is "Battlefield of the Mind" by Joyce Meyer. It is all about the struggle of good people with thoughts that always seem to be attacking them with scarey and negative thoughts about themselves and God.

Please do go online, to Walmart, or a Christian book store and buy the paperback edition.....I assure you that it will help you.

Honest,
Please remember that CHRIST (our Messiah) said "Only GOD is good". Satan is the one who has been affecting your thinking recently. If you need to talk with someone and I am online, I would be glad to assist you. I am not looking to adopt you or torment you. I am a disabled school teacher who cares deeply about people and has a great Love of our FATHER. I am a simple Christian who continually reads, studies, and obeys the Holy Bible. Have a wonderful New Years!
Thank You,
Eds

EDIT:
I initially answered your question because of De and her great care. She is a wonderful friend of mine who has always been considerate of others in need. Have a great weekend.

This was the picture that the people in the Old Testament had for the most part. God loves us so much, that He sent Jesus (who is also God) to die for our sin. And He would have done it even if you were the only one to accept Him. No one can love you more. Fear of the Lord is knowledge. Another way to use this word is respect.

I felt this way before and you know that God is loving is just hard sometimes. We have so many feelings and emotions I just wish could shut them up, so I can be closer to God. My question for you is have you ever ask Jesus Christ in to your heart and you are saved. Now if you have then you have the answer in him you will find rest. God has his reasons for everything, as crazy and hurtful they can be at times. We can never understand his ways. He is love, but like a father he has anger. But his anger is not like ours. So if you do know Jesus as lord and savior then get on you knees and pray. All prayer is, is talking to God. Tell him how you feel get it out and cry if you have to. It may take time a day a week but you will find when you seek God. Ask for peace and more faith. Know if your not sure your saved, Girl your missing out. I have been through so much without God in my life. And you know what I FOUND that with him is bliss that I can never explain. When I go saved that was it. I have ups and down but I know that God is my rock that I can stand. I have to keep going, never give up. The fight goes on, I have to keep My God by my side. Read your bible and you will have a better day. There is a time and a place for everything. Time for a storm, Time for joy, I time for peace, I time for hurt. There will be a better time. I know how you feel and you will get through with Christ alone.

We can all go through "experiences" in our lives at times and think certain things about God.....because of the experience we just went through. Don't confuse the experience with God......we certainly live in a world laden with sin...there is no doubt about that, BUT we also live in a world where we can be FREE and free indeed from the affects of sin through the death, burial and resurrection of our Saviour, Jesus Christ!!!
So......pray....and think, listen for Him....and He will get back to you......He will!!!
Your mind will change if you let Him!
Read this....Romans 12:2, "Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect."
Pretty good, huh!?
