I'm contemplating a bob because I dyed my hair quite a bit this year and as a result I have the split ends from h-e-double-hockey-sticks. I have already taken two inches off my hair, and still have 3-4 inches of split ends left. I have had my hair shoulder-length in the past and it has looked awful, so my options seem to be deal with the split ends or chop my hair short. Can I manage to cut it off and look good? If you can link me to a picture of a style to take to the hairdresser, that would be great, too. Thanks!

If not a bob, then what kind of shorter style would look good for my type of hair and face shape? Thanks again!

Bobs and other short hair styles tend to make curly hair even curlier and bigger because the hair is not pulled down by its own weight. Bobs were designed for ppl. with straigher hair, but I think you should get those split ends taken care of anyway. Because split ends can travel up the hair shaft, meaning you'd just have to go shorter if you wait.

Once the split ends are gone, if you don't like your new hairstyle, I recommend really nourishing your hair with deep conditioner and buying a salon-quality flat iron. Yes, flat irons can cause split ends, but they are excellent tools if used responsibly. You must condition well and use a leave-in heat protecting product every time you flat iron. And its best not to flat iron every day. While its growing out and your hair is resting from the flat iron, invest in some cute headwear.

PS--Flat irons made from tourmaline are the best (even better than ceramics). I recommend the Solia or Sedu. See Folica.com. A cheap flat iron really will mess up your hair....

It depends how good your stylist is. I have crazy thick hair, and have found bobs to be the answer. They look especially cute with a heart-shaped face, so that wouldn't be a problem. The only thing you'd have to make sure of, is that when you went to get it cut, you'd have to specify that you wanted your hair thinned, and you wanted a "wash and wear" cut that wouldn't take that much styling time.

A shorter cut would fix the split end problem, and your hair will be a lot healthier with most of the dead ends off. The problem with shoulder length damaged hair is that volume is lost and shine is lost because of the damage, and hair, no matter how hard you work with it, is hard to style and won't lay the right way.

Another thing to consider is bangs if you don't already have them, which also look cute with bobs.

This is Reese's bob, which is actually a bit longer than a normal bob, but is a good example because her hair is curly in this picture and she has a heart shaped face.

Jessica has a shorter style:

Good Luck!

p.s. a way to get those split ends under control would be to use a leave in conditioner balm or spray every day after you take a shower, or to do a hydrating hair mask once a week. the best brand for that is Garnier Fructics and Aussie.

I have curly hair, too, and if you attempt this, you will need to make sure they really thin out your hair and put in lots of layers so it doesn't look like a triangle. Also, if wearing straight, you need to make sure you are good at straightening your hair. A good stylist will straighten the hair and flat iron it FIRST and THEN cut the hair for a more precise cut. That way, it looks good both curly and straight.

Don't do a bob with curly hair, you will have to straighten it which will make it unhealthy. I have seen cute curly short hairstlyes I think they have uneven layers but i am not sure.
