Why are you on here fighting against something that you do not believe is real? Would you try to fight the tooth fairy? Why do you give your entire life fighting against a God you do not believe in? Please help me to understand. You believe christians to be foolish. What makes you so much better than people who believe there is a God to dedicate your life to fight against them?

I am a born again Christian. So I cant answer your question .
But I can say this, that they fight because they do not yet KNOW, they are rebellious against God.
ANd, I say we must continue to pray for them to KNOW, and love them and forgive them, while we continue to speak and live the truths of God, as commanded.
God bless you again.

First: I'm not fighting against anything. I'm just trying to understand why grown ups still believe in things that were taught at the same time as the tooth fairy and Santa...and stopped asking questions (or never made them?).

Second: The tooth fairy is a nice story to tell children (If you want to lie to them), but is harmless. Religion is not: there is not enough space here to name all the wrong things humans do in the name of their religion.

Third: I come here to relax, make friends, help other people to solve their problems, know about other people's beliefs and ideas and to express myself, a bit as you are doing through this question...I don't give "my entire life" to this, I have many other interesting things to do and learn.

Fourth: I don't believe Christians are foolish. I believe some Christians are honest people and that they not only trully believe, but that they practice what they think is their religion. Some are poor kids that were taught Christianity as "the only truth" and they may not have the strenght to fight against that, or may be busy doing other stuff and pay not to much attention to what is their religion about...until they awake! Some Christians (as some atheists too) are foolish, people is people, friend, believers and non believers.

Fifth: I don't think I'm better than anyone else. I may be better in some skills than others, but I'm sure there are others even better than me. And I have a lot of weaknesses and need to learn a lot. Like everybody else...

I'm not doing the fighting, I'm just defending my lack of belief.

I would only defend against belief in the tooth fairy if believers were trying to teach in public schools, or trying to inject the tooth fairy story into the government. I don't believe all christians are foolish, but a few on here make themselves look foolish.

Answering a few questions on Y/A does not constitute a dedication of my life, by the way.

Perhaps because people who do believe in the toothfairy don't tell the world that afairyists are the source of the worlds problems

people who believe in the toothfairy don't think that other people should be forced to pratice in fairiest beliefs and complain if people say "hold up a minute".

I'm not fighting against your god (or the toothfairy), I'm answering questions directed at atheists.

I don't know that foolish is the right word - misguided?

Same reason the religious people come on here to fight atheists...humans have an insatiable appetite for being right. If you don't think I am right I will attack you without mercy. Some humans did this in the form of military/political conquest...today we do this in the forum of a rather meaningless chat room. But, as the first responder indicates...it is entertaining especially for an insomniac like me.

Because belief in the tooth fairy is generally held by children, not adults who consider themselves mature and rational?

Because the President has never said that doubters of santa claus shouldn't be considered citizens?

Because children's belief in the tooth fairy has never been known to hinder science and shackle reason?

I'm not better, I just have common sense, that's all.

You see it as fighting. Atheists don't. And what makes you think that coming to an open forum to answer and ask questions is dedicating your entire life to 'fighting' god. Atheists don't claim to be better. They just don't believe in gods.

You continually make the claim that atheists are spending their life fighting god. That could only be true if they believed in god. They don't. Your whole argument is nonsense. You make things up and present them as fact. That is why atheists find you annoying and frustrating.

I'm 'fighting' to stop SOME of the extreme groups from destroying freedom and education. They are trying to infiltrate education and force schools to teach ridiculous nonsence such as Creationalism. And another bunch just want to force us to knee 5 times a day and chant rubbish.

I'm not actually devoting my life to it. I poke my head in once in a while and answer a few questions. As to why these particular questions; It kind of like seeing somebody reaching for something you know is too hot. I have to say something. Or like you hear people discussing a movie they want to see and you saw it and you know it was crap. You just want to warn people, 'Hey! Don't waste your time. It was crap!' Kind of like that. Call it 'the good Samaritan' in me.

What am I fighting exactly? I'm here having a good time asking and answering questions. I also learn a lot about other peoples religions that I hadn't previously known. Just because I'm an atheist doesn't mean I hate religion or religious people.
