ditch the cooking and take him to a nice romantic restaurant that he enjoys or pick you 2 a new one. Then you can enjoy the dinner as well and not worry about cooking. Go home for dessert and have some choc dipped strawberries and some champagne ( if you all drink). thats a romantic end to a nice dinner date

Traditional Osso Buco
This recipe is a traditional but simple way of cooking Osso Buco (veal shanks). The white wine is a must in this dish.
PREP TIME 20 Min
COOK TIME 1 Hr 30 Min
READY IN 1 Hr 50 Min
INGREDIENTS
2 pounds veal shanks, cut into short lengths
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup Butter
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 large onion, chopped
1 large carrot, chopped
2/3 cup dry white wine
2/3 cup beef stock
1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes
salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
1 clove garlic, minced
2 teaspoons grated lemon zest
DIRECTIONS
Dust the veal shanks lightly with flour. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium to medium-high heat. Add the veal, and cook until browned on the outside. Remove to a bowl, and keep warm. Add two cloves of crushed garlic and onion to the skillet; cook and stir until onion is tender. Return the veal to the pan and mix in the carrot and wine. Simmer for 10 minutes.
Pour in the tomatoes and beef stock, and season with salt and pepper. Cover, and simmer over low heat for 1 1/2 hours, basting the veal every 15 minutes or so. The meat should be tender, but not falling off the bone.
In a small bowl, mix together the parsley, 1 clove of garlic and lemon zest. Mix into the veal just before serving.
To make it special, set the table with low lights and GOOD ITALIAN wine :)
Enjoy some good cheese/meat appetizer in the kitchen with your hubby while you have to cook - it does take a while but worth it

My traditional birthday dinner was always baked ham, au gratin potatoes, steamed asparagus and a lime jello salad made with 7-Up (instead of the cold water), pineapple and spiced grapes. So I still have the ham and au gratins, but change up the veggie and the salad. In fact, we had that 12/23!
Now, if I were you...if your husband likes steak, make filet mignon with twice baked potato plus a veggie (whatever is his favorite), salad, dinner rolls and a nice red wine. it really comes down to you making one of his favorite meals.
Happy New Years and Happy Birthday to your husband!

surf and turf, lobster or king crab legs and beautiful little filet Mignon's, or just the seafood if that too much.
too start some nice white wine with a fresh baked loaf of focaccia /or similar,to dip in real good extra virgin oil and premium balsamic vinegar,..........mmmm...does it get any better than that??
if you have access to fresh seafood that is the way to go,if not, the steak and crab legs are good too.

My wife made me Japanese-style stir fry with rice, steak, chicken, and shrimp. It was really good. She got out the griddle and recreated what you would get at a Japanese steak house (where they cook in front of you). It was really good, mostly because my wife is a great cook.

I want to have my grandma's curry chicken. It has been more than 10 years since I last tasted her food. Now she's old and demented, she can't cook.
