What do you mean by "diverse" and "pluralistic"?

The contents, doctrine, values, beliefs and followers of Islam and how it looks like to the rest of the world is what makes it viewed negatively.

I don't agree that Islam is a diverse and pluralistic religion. The reason it is viewed as negative is actions of people who claim to follow Islam. Each day some person is being killed, bombed, or rioted against for expressing a view point. Women are beaten for being raped, and not allowed to live as they wish. Just this week in Pakistan Bhutto was killed along with may other people after giving a speech. Al-Qaida has been reported to have taken credit for the killing. With every thing certain followers of Islam do every day is should not be surprising Islam is portrayed in a negative way.

none of the people know what they are talking about...first, islam is indeed the most diverse because it has followers in six continents (antarctica the seventh) ...second, historically, islam is the most pluralistic and the most tolerant faith ever...third, degrading of women and non-Muslims are sterotypes resulting from western media, women are one of the most powerful voices in Turkey and Dubai (both Muslim countries) - in those countries, women cant shop if they have a burqa on, so they are trying to promote a more equal social status, which will take time...fourth, it is portrayed negatively because of western media and western countries trying to manipulate Islam's culture and society by infusing the Western culture in the Middle East....Imagine Arabs come to America with their military and try to enforce their laws and culture and religion to Americans; there would be Americans performing suicide bombings to avoid the Middle Eastern culture...the same thing is working backwards in Middle East.

Islam is not "the most diverse and pluralistic faith in the world." It is one of the most restrictive faiths in the world. I don't where you heard that, but whoever said it was either ignorant of the facts himself, or lying through his teeth.

The fanatical branch of Islam is portraying it as a very negative and barbaric religion.

Because most of the cultures that joined Islam did so unwillingly

Also Ive read parts of The Quran(which is exactly why I'm not a Muslim)

But heres the thing... if that is the religion you believe in then you shouldn't care what others say about it

anna: ... what are Islams?

"Diverse" and "Pluralistic"? Um, hello - they act like it's the year 1400 and you can get killed for stupid infractions against the religion (for example, if an Islamic woman is not wearing her burqa).

At least Christianity has updated with the times.

All of the dead people.

The plurality of dead people has given rise to a sense of negativity in regards to it.

The propensity for an admittedly infestimal few to cut off the heads of still-living people as a result of their inspired response to its message turns lots of people off.

Diversity and pluralism are by no means justification for existence, BTW. They are just pretty adjectives.

EDIT: The "brown people" argument is bunk. A whole lot of "Brown people" in Central and South America are Christian, and there isn't a backlash against that religion.
Perhaps the lack of beheadings and suicide bombings has something to do with it???

because islams are generally brown people, and brown people are portrayed as terrorists thanks to the 9/11 incident. Nothing to do with what their religion is really about. Except maybe that thing about stoning.. the women being killed by throwing stones.. Or how some girls will be killed if they're not married virgins.. shytt like that.
