Normally, Trimethoprime(antibiotic) is effective for treating UTI. However, there are other antibiotics also used as a second-line treatment when it is not effective.eg: Augmentin
UTI in men is treated with Trimethoprime 200mg twice daily for 7 days whereas in women it is only for 3 days.
Please do consult your doctor for further advise.
Hope, this helps

The only way to get rid of this infection is to first find out what kind of infection it is! The doctor needs to perform both a urine culture and a blood culture. The urine culture will be grown in a lab and will determine not only which bacteria is infecting the male, but also which antibiotic will be useful in fighting it. The blood culture should be done to make sure that the UTI hasn't spread to other parts of the body (bacteremia). Usually, all male UTI cases should be treated as UTI with complications. Men are not susceptable to them like women are. If the urine has already been cultured and is still not responding to antibiotics, then it is time to double-up on antiobiotics that have been proven to be effective against this particular bacteria that is causing the UTI. If your doctors haven't done any of the above mentioned, get the male to a different hospital or practitioner immediately!

This is a natural remedy that works.
Go to the health food store and buy a pint of UNSWEETENED CRANBERRY CONCENTRATE. Mix it with two gallons of water.
Drink a glass morning, mid morning, noon, afternoon and night. This flushes the toxins out of your kidneys and urinary tract and corrects the PH balance.
DO NOT ADD SUGAR. INFECTIONS LOVE SUGAR AND GROW WITH THE ADDITION OF SUGAR. Drink it with a straw if you do not like tart things.
Antibiotics cause a yeast infection in our bodies, vaginally, orally, rectally. Antibiotics kill off the healthy bacteria along with the unhealthy bacteria.
Using Spell checker will help your question make sense.
