What is ultrasound therapy exactly. I had treatement with this for my knee injury when i was a teenager.
I have looked around on the internet and there is a lot of contradicting stuff on this form of therapy. Some say there is no conclusive evidence that it helps in the healing of the soft tissue.
Im considering using this type of therapy for my knee joint injury (cartilage repair) in conjuction with joint medication.

Is it worth it?
What is ultrasound supposed to do that helps cartilage/joint and bone tissue heal?

Where can i buy a personal ultrasound kit? are they any good anyway?

Ultrasound therapy (US for short) is using low intensity ultrasound waves at 1Mhz or 3Mhz with different wave settings for the purpose of accelerating healing.

At those frequencies, tendons, ligaments, scar tissue, fascia, muscles, and cartilage absorb the sound waves and begin to heat up, which results in increased blood flow to the area and accelerate healing.

My experience with them in PT rehab clinics have been mixed. I'd say US machines work quite well for acute injuries. I torn one of my quad muscles due to sports injury, but instead of being out for weeks, I was back on my feet within 3 days. I've also tried it for my chronic muscle problems but zero results. Bottomline: acute yes, chronic no.

You can try US for your knee. It may or may not work. It's worth a try.

As for personal ultrasound kits. Those are garbage. They're missing a lot of features on the professional machines. They're only good for facial beauty therapy. Typically missing are the wattage settings, pulse setting, wave pattern, and Mhz setting needed for US therapy.

If I may make a suggestion. If you're going to a PT rehab clinic, try the cold laser therapy in addition to your regiment. Cold laser therapy helps accelerate healing of tissue as well. Although make sure they use an Erchonia laser or something similar of caliber. There are many weaker cold laser devices out there which don't work.

Ultrasound is not useful for any therapy. The claims are hoax
