GET A LAWYER

Gey a lawyer.Write down any information you have and any documentation you may have to support your case. Most lawyers will give you a limited free consultation period and will tell you what your options are.If there was a will it should have gone through probate court. There should have been notices published in the newspapers stating where and when any claims against the estate should have been submitted.I'm not sure if there is a statute of limitations on these matters so get to a lawyer as quickly as you can.I agree it appears the family was sneaky in the handling of the estate.

You should not have put all this personal info on the web. My aunt did the same thing to my mom, she took the will which put my mom in charge and cleaned out my Grandpas place but we have no proof since she has the will.........She took al his belongings, cars, anything valuable. She only left the pictures of my family inside. How horrible can someone be...BTW now she has locked my grandma in her house told her she will never see her grandchilderen again if she leaves the house, she made her sell her house give her cell phone up and car so she could give this all to her childeren. We have not gotten to see her in over a year and she can only sneek phone calls when my Aunt is not around. Best of luck we have been fighting with her and the lawyers for over 5 years. They cant help us with the grandma situation though

Obviously you do care about the money since you are asking about it. If all three of her children were supposed to get a cut of the money, and you KNOW that, and you KNOW she took all of it, take her to small claims court. You need to find out if the mother left a will, what is in the will, and what the sister took, if anything.

Check with the County Records Department of the county where she died to see if she had a will probated and, if so, who was the executor named in the will. Then contact them.
There are very specific legal requirements that the court will supervise if a will was filed. If not, too bad. All bets are off.

did darlene have a will?? what was her money invested in i.e. was it in a bank account, IRA, under her mattress?? if it was in a bank account, only certain people can withdraw it. property automatically goes into probate (if there is no will or trust), so how would sister in law have access to the money without you knowing?? if mother in law was smart, she would have created a will and the lawyer (if she was smart enough to get one) would have kept a copy or the county records department if she recorded it.

talk to the attorney who handled the estate.
you can find all the information by contacting the court house in the county where your mother in law died.
they will give you information about how much it will cost to get the records, which shouldn't be that much... if her estate went through probate, it is a public record.

take care, good luck

Write to the county courthouse where she died. Ask to see a copy of the probated will. People who don't have a will have their estates probated through the courts.
