I am going to a local community college in Tennessee. I got laid off from my job, and have applied at 3 other places. My parents will not help me at all,and until I find another job i can not even get a loan. And I can't use FAFSA b/c of my parents. Can anyone help me find a way to pay for college?

You can get a student loan in your name without a cosigner or a credit check no matter what your parents income is. It will prob be a unsubsidized Stafford loan, but its money for school. And yes, you do this by applying at www.fafsa.ed.gov
Good Luck.

You can get a loan even if you are not working, the loans do not have to be paid back until 6 months after you graduate and even then if you still have not found a job by then you can
have it deferred until you find a job.

I know this because that is what I am doing right now. I am enrolled in a local community college and every Jan.1 I go online a fill out the forms for loans. I can't get the grants because I have BA and once you have a Bachelors degree you can only receive loans.
PS My parents don't pay for my schooling either.
PSS But if you have never applied for a grant or loans you should be able to received the grants just list yourself as an independent.

Your first step needs to be your colleges' financial aid office. If you can document that you have been paying your own expenses and that your parents aren't contributing to your living expenses, car insurance, health insurance, etc. you can get what is called a dependency override. Schools are pretty tight with these because they are audited by the Department of Education on how many they do, but if your parents truly are not helping you out and you can prove it, you have a shot.

Also, you should still complete the FAFSA. At the worst, you would have to take out student loans that are unsubsidized to pay for school, but these can be paid back when you are done with school, so they are worth it, especially if you think you will be able to get a better job after you get your education.

Finally, I assume you have filed for your unemployment benefits. If not, talk to your state unemployment agency. Also, you may be eligible for retraining (i.e. the government pays for school) or other assistance if you lost your job because your workplace closed or relocated to a foreign country. I included links to the state web sites below.

You might want to consider getting a full time job at the colllege that you want to attend - full time employees get to take a number of credits free (but usually less than a full semester). If you do this, you can have living money, work experience, and a college degree with no loans outstanding. It seems worth the effort, even though it may take you longer than the traditional four years.

TRY ALL scholarships. !
Try the FAFSA anyway and see if you can fill out that they are not willing to help you and you are on your own. Try it. The Pell Grant is getting me through college thank the good lord.
Good luck

Do you live in a separate residence away from your parents? If so you can use FAFSA and you can apply as an independent.

-Get a government job, they pay the most.
-Sell any material things you have ie. bike, etc.
-Work in the summer months to pay for Fall/Winter
-Be very versatile in jobs you apply for, if you're smart you can do any job including shoveling snow and getting paid cash.

Don't listen to that immature guy who said 'whore'.
