I got pulled over by a police car that first tailgated me for a few minutes. Is there any chance they used any method other than car pacing?

I turned onto the road I was ticketed on about half a mile in front of the police car already in motion. He followed me, then pulled me. There was no chance I passed him stopped.

He could have done a pace, or .... he could have clocked you on radar, then turned around and did a second measurement by pacing. Maybe you didn't notice him going in the opposite direction earlier.

It should say on the citation.

Where you were stopped is not an issue, where you were clocked is. It is common for officers to wait to stop someone until they are in a safe area, away from curves, hills, or other obstacles.

This case is pretty simple. All he needed to do was point the radar at a stationary object, like a building, and it would tell the officer exactly how fast he (and hence you) were travelling.

Notwithstanding, pacing is a perfectly good method for determining speed, as long as everything is calibrated, and there is no particular reason why it would not hold up in court.

Ya just gotta luv techy stuff.

Link the radar to the cars computer, point the radar at something while moving or stationary and you will get its speed regardless of the directions you are heading. RF travels at 186,000 miles per second, same as light. Simple case of math after that.

Look up how LoRan works at sea, how a jet fighter knows how fast another aircraft is closing on it. In the case of any Highway Patrol add the Laser Radar and fine tune your scrutiny to one vehicle.

Sounds like he paced you, but if he used radar it may have been same direction capable radar which uses a formula of caculating his patrol speed with closing speed and target speed. I can't get into details about this but it's accurate either way.

Radar is the dangist thing. It can pick up an air plain if it's low enough.
