Why do you think so.
It seems that you take God as human being and trying to judge Him by human standard. God have every right to ask us to worship and glorify Him.

Just looking at the statement Psychologically I would not call God arrogant and conceited, but rather has some serious issues with loneliness and respect. Any One who would create an entire species for the sole purpose of worshiping Him would have to be a very sad and miserable deity indeed.
Does anyone else see this as a possibility besides me?

I think there are many paths and methods that lead one to greater spirituality. I don't think that God is necessarily a person, though I think that God may respond to being related to as if He is a person. I don't think that we were necessarily created as a willful act. I think that many people benefit from loving and honoring God, but that doesn't make God into a person/thing. It may, however, benefit the individual by anchoring them with a concept that evokes compassion in them and activity from that "thing" that they call God. I suppose this all sounds a bit Kabbalistic or Gnostic rather than Christian, particularly. So, the bottom line is that loving and honoring "Him" may be beneficial, though there was no intention on "His" part that you do so, particularly.

No. If God were almighty enough to make everyone and everything, (and I believe He is), He would deserved to be loved and honored.
As for God's "pettiness" in destroying people, why do you think that is petty? If you created something, and it didn't meet your needs or desires, you would have the option of destroying it as well.
Don't make the mistake of putting mankind on the same level with God!

You'd and your conceited followers would probably have to make the effort to read God's Word for yourself. But wait! That would involve effort and the use of the cerebral cortex. No, you'd better play it safe and gamble that you and yours are correct in assuming that the God of the bible wants you and I to love each other as well, care for HIS people; all HIS people, not just the ones who believe and know of HIS existance, but even those who claim to not believe.
The way I viewed it when I felt compelled to make a decision was, "Let's see, I can either not believe and keep beating my head on the wall and accept doom and the end of existance as we know it , as so many will put an end to their miserable lives when they are all nothing but ashes, OOOOOOOOOOR.....I can choose to believe in a supernatural Being who must be responsible for our existence since no one else has a viable explanation for how we came about other than to say , "we evolved from an amoebe into the fairly intelligent upright animals we are now. You see,,,,,,,,,, If I am right, and there is a God above who only wants the best for me and for me to continue to be happy and successful and then when that's all over to have another form of live for an eternity in sheer bliss with He who created us.......or to choose to end this bearly tolerable existence with many non-believable after a brief 90+plus years at best...............Uh????????? Guess what? I choose God. Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Go God!!!

A HUMAN said that, not God (oh boy, here come the thumbs down!). That human was the one that was conceited, insinuating that God is that deeply involved in humans. God, whatever it is, has indeed been present in this world, but anybody that presumes to know exactly what God is ot thinks, is probably farther away from understanding than a person that says "I have absolutely no idea what God is, but I deeply believe in it".

He says that he's a jealous god and no one should have other gods but him. Then he kills off thousands for petty reasons. Yeah, insanely arrogant and conceited.
Added: Mecan.... you haven't read some of the questions and answers here - most atheists and pagans here HAVE read the Bible, we even have Bible scholar atheists here. Reading the Bible was a major reason a lot of us left Christianity. We do have our brains working and don't accept something just because a BOOK says it's the only truth.

No. God is not insanely arrogant and conceited and He didn't write that. Some guy did. I've learned not to believe everything you read.
And anyways, if that were true why would He create something to honor Him and then give it the ability to make it's (our) own personal choice.???
**mecajunboy: what's with the sarcasm, she's asking a logical question and she's not offending anyone's beliefs. Why are you offending her?

John 4:23
"...worship the Father in Spirit and truth: for the Father
seeks such to worship Him."
GOD does tell us that one of the things HE desires is
worship from man.
but not for HIS ego or because HE needs it.but because
GOD is so great, and HOLY and PERFECT it is deserved--and no other attitude toward GOD would be appropriate or sufficient.
what would we do on our own? think that GOD is pretty
cool, or say that GOD is greater than us but we're pretty
fantastic too so we're not so far away from GOD's greatness?
or think that the BEING that created us is like a buddy or
colleague?
it sounds to us like insane ego because we think in
human terms;what would be in the mind of a human if he thought this way.
but GOD is so far above us.
in other parts of the BIBLE GOD also talks about believers as friends and as a wife who HE lays down HIS life for.
we are fortunate beyond comprehension to have a GOD
who is not only infinite in HIS POWER, but someone we can
know as a friend.
and finally; GOD says HE is going to pour out HIS whole
storehouse of blessings on us.
I can't wait to see what that is !

I thought about this statement before. I don't know what to think honestly, maybe we're misinterpreting it wrong, I did read somewhere that we were created as companions for God. Either way, I don't mind, somehow I feel safe trusting what God (really) has in plan or has planned out.
