I spend 1/2 of that time on cardio, btw. How can I make the each move extra effective? I want each move to be magical, fixing my body more and more each week.

My goal is to get a Shape magazine cover body. I'd look SO awful in one of those tiny suits now.

It all depends on what your goals are. Try setting up a workout schedule that focuses on certain muscle groups. If you want to build strength then go heavy with the weights and cut down on the cardio. if you are just trying to get toned keep it light with a little more cardio. As far as a magical move is concerned there isn't one unless your on the juice.

about a year ago I lost over 30 pounds, and what really worked for me was circuit trainig.

Warm up first with some cardio and then do machines and/or free weights without resting. Move from one to the other.

I have read that doing 15-20 minutes of cardio (at a high intensity level) is also enough.

Also, another thing that works is changing your routine. Your body can get used to a routine if you repeat it too often.

Plan your workouts. Instead of doing isolated moves for just one muscle, use multiple joint exercises like barbell lifts, so more muscles get worked out at once. For cardio, mix it up and do intervals, so your workout has harder minutes and easier minutes. Increase your speed, distance or time each week for 12 weeks, then take a one-week break so you don't overload. Listen to your body, so if you're tired you can skip a workout.

first of all you can alternate days for weight training. One day work your upper body and the next work your lower body. Do a few 2 or 3 reps of about 10 or so, when you start feeling like it isn't working just increase the weight. This should work out well for you.
Good luck!
