i tried to lift my 1 year old male cat because he thought the wireless router is a toy and started hitting the router with his paw.

But just when i lifted him, he hit his paws on my wrist and i got some cut and scratches on wrist

i have now locked him in a cage but unsure when to let him out.

While rescuing a stray cat is admirable, if you don't know about cats, you BOTH have some adjusting to do. It does not sound as if he scratched you on purpose. Putting him a cage was the WRONG thing to do -- he really didn't do anything wrong. Cats use their claws, all the time. EVERY cat owner has been scratched, many times. It's just part of owning a cat and it doesn't mean the cat is mean or bad -- they are just CATS.

Punishing pets doesn't work anyway. They simply do NOT understand that the reason they are in a cage -- or being hit -- is because of something they did 2 minutes ago.

If you don't think you can handle this cat, please bring him to a shelter. If you DO want to keep him, the first thing you need to do is bring him to a vet and get him checked out. The vet will be able to tell you his approx. age and whether or not he's been neutered. If he hasn't been neutered, the vet will make the arrangements to have it done.

Then, you need to do some research about cats and learn all you can. If you do this, you will be rewarded with years of fun and companionship!

Good luck.

The kitten was not being hyper or aggressive. If cats see something that looks interesting they will attempt to play with it. Getting scratched is part of owning a cat. The cat was enjoying playing and did not hurt you on purpose. You need to let him out. Neutering him is a good idea and help keep him from spraying urine in your house. Take him to a vet, get his shots, neuter him and talk to the vet about proper behavior. Spray bottle of water or a little jar with coins in will help control his behavior. Spray him with the water or make noise with the coins can help him stop bad behavior. Just remember cats are playful and energetic and like to investigate their surrounds.

Don't lock him up. He was just curious about the router. By picking him up, you "interfered" and became the "prey." You can use a squirt bottle and spray water at him when he touches the router. Eventually he'll learn that playing with the router= getting wet. Cats can be trained, and they're much smarter than we give them credit for. If you have to put him in "time-out," shut him in the bathroom for about 10 or 15 mins.

You should not be using a cage as punishment- the cat will learn nothing from that.
The cat tried to get out of your grip because you were probably holding him in an uncomfortable position and you happened to get scratched in the process.

Make sure your cat has plenty of toys to play with and play with him daily. Also, if he is not neutered then do so because it often helps calm them down.

some cats that have been abused or scared someway whilst they have been tiny, by no skill somewhat recover from it. the stable information is that he does have a comfortable area. you could make stronger his 'stable' habit with lots of love and doubtless a cope with or 2 - yet scolding him whilst he 'launches' will in basic terms startle him greater. seems such as you have a spooky kitty there, yet do no longer situation too lots approximately it - it feels like he's wonderful, as long as a results of fact the vet says so - by utilizing the way, he's neutered, ceremony? that would desire to be a area of the undertaking too if he's not. stable success!

You're a good person. Your cat has had to fend for himself for a very long time and is still in the process of learning to be a loved house cat. He was playing, and forgot to stop with you. Let him out of the cage and don't startle him with quick hand movements. He will adjust in time.

please let him out. he did not know he was doing anything bad. he is adjusting to his new life. you may have startled him when you went to grab him, so he reacted in the way a cat normally would...using its claws.

for sure, bring him to a vet to get him neutered.

just give him a little time, space and understanding. it's great you've given him shelter. i hope you can keep him.

good luck!

it is all good advise to let him out. i agree your vet will be able to give you a lot of very invaluable information about owning a cat and how cats behave, they will / should answer any behavioral questions you might have. i have had cats for 30 years, it just sounds like you startled him and he bolted, just surprised, not bad kitty...
