God is in the process of creating His own family. He will give humans eternal life, which we will share with Him for eternity. He desires to share His eternal existence with others in a way of life of love toward others. Because of His love, God brought the universe into existence in the first place. It is because of God's love that He gave us a part in it. Life is the result of God's love and His desire to share His love with His immortal family for eternity.
Hebrews 2:6-8 indicates that our ultimate destiny is to participate in rulership over the entire universe as glorified, immortal children of God!.....EDIT......I can see by the many responses to this question that there are many people here in this forum that don't know why they were born, who they are, or where the're going! They are still "children of wrath" who have been spiritually blinded, who have no regard for their real purpose in life for what will eventually become their inevitablilty.

I don't know why there is something instead of nothing. But the simple fact that there is does not mean it has a creator. The main reason people want to believe in a creator is the fact that we as humans feel the need to have a purpose. Unfortunately for most religions this purpose is totally unnecessary. Why do we need to live here on this one planet in this big Universe just to be judged. Did I sign some sort of waver before I was born saying that I consented to being judged. I think not. Christianity basically says that I'm a slave to God. He created me and he will judge me. Did I have a choice? Where is the free will in that?

The universe came into existence because the conditions to create it existed at the optimum moment. This is Science and although we can only theorise about those conditions and the origins of the universe, certain scientific facts can be tested and proven. Please read Bill Brysons 'A Short History of Nearly Everything' that explains in layman's terms the chemical reactions and processes involved. I am not convinced however you want an explanation other than God must be responsible. Our purpose here is to live the best lives we can, look after the planet and all living creatures on it. Sadly many are failing on all three.

Here's my take on this, the universe has always been in one form or another, it is dynamic and changes all the time. I suggest that the so-called "big bang" was a local event in our portion of the universe and it is physically impossible for us to ever know the true size of the universe because it has no real boundaries. There is no beginning to the universe, there is no end, ever. Planets form around some stars in many galaxies and there are possibly thousands if not millions of "habitable" planets, although the "life" on those other planets would be unrecognizable as life to us, it may or may not be carbon-based and would have evolved appropriately to best suit survival in its environment. Some of that life might have been around long enough to develop language, technology and civilization. Some of these civilizations may have existed eons ago, on planets long since gone, some may be in their earliest stages of development, most are probably too distant to ever even be detected by our most sensitive and advanced technology.
Gods were a creation of Man, completely fictitious.

"When they asked him why it had to be that way, well he answered: just because" (Bob Dylan) Seriously though, hindus believe that the universe is the dream of a god. When that god goes to sleep and starts dreaming a universe is created. When he wakes up that universe disappears. And so on, always the same. But if you really want to know, that question can never be answered and no, I don't see that it proves the existence of God nor does it show that there has to be a purpose.

Hi.....
Impossible to answer!!
We are too small and almost non-existent, to even 'try' to think something like this!!
The Universe 'created'??
Do you really think, that 'something' that, according to the religious, actually looks like us, 'made' the Universe!!??
Do you believe that goat herders, three thousand years ago, knew what the Universe was, or that they knew for sure, that a deity created it??
That 'is' the 'god' you are mentioning!!!
Do you think that the hundreds of thousands or millions of Worlds, with intelligent life, will be the same as and look like Humanity!?
There is no ancient book that can give you these answers!
Science is the 'only' way forward........
The 'purpose' you are here, is to be a part of the Universe!!!

"WHY" implies reason, which of course implies God, and it implies a purpose. So, you're asking, what is God's purpose in creating the universe?
Simply put, it pleases him.
But what pleases God the most is giving. And therefore, God intends to give the universe to someone.
Colossians 1:16 -- For by Him [Jesus] all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.
So, the "Universe Project," and the end result, was given to Jesus as a gift.

How does a supernatural G/god give life more meaning than life itself? Why would the Creator need to prove anything?
The universe is here because it is its nature to be. That answer leaves room for the unknown and unquantifiable.
Gods are boastful, needing worship and prefer magic over nature. More importantly they have proven to be myth... the superstitious creations of ancient cultures.
If a force exists that is integral in the universe's beginnings it is far greater than a G/god and has the dignity to remain unknown.

The question is unanswerable. It assumes that there is in fact a reason, when there is no reason to suppose this. The existence of the universe cannot reasonably be extrapolated to show the existence of any sort of god, and the only reason that life exists is that it is possible for it to do so. See:

Why do you think that the universe was created, isn't it just as plausible that it has always existed? I'm sure that you would have a problem with that though since, if it has always existed, there would be no need for your god.
As for this being "kind of a deep question", it isn't.

Honestly, I can't get my head around it and I think it's amazing! Be careful asking this question because it's like an open gate for all the "fill the hole in your soul with God" converters and to say they sap the mystery and fun out of life is an understatement!
I love to watch theoretical documentaries about quantum physics just to get my head in a twist about it, makes for some brilliant conversation too.
:o)
Happy hunting my friend.
