my neighbors have 2 dogs that stay outside all the time..1 is a little german shephard/pitbull puppy, hes about..hmm..not even halfway grown yet and his back bone, ribs and everything are showing..his lower back is probably no more bigger around than a water bottle is..iv called the humane society, but the only thing they did was make them get dog houses..but they didnt get dog houses..just a plastic barrel..iv been thinking about maybe stealing the dog and taking him somewhere, like to my brothers, iv tried asking them if they wanted to give the dog away or maybe sell it for 50 dollars..maybe i should raise the price to 100 or something..i dont know what to do, any opinions?

Contact the SPCA or animal control in your area and report it.

If you do not have either of those available, contact your local police department and report it to them.

I'm sorry to hear that you are distressed over your neighbor's dog. If you can get them to sell it to you and you are able to find it a better life than that would be a nice option. Other options include buying a dog house as a gift if they turn down selling the dog. Remember that if a shelter gets the dog, and it is either large or not very young or in good condition there is a good chance that it will not be re homed and that it could end up being put to sleep. Being that you are so close to the dog in proximity you might also ask your neighbors if they could make some good use of the house and kibble that you suddenly had no use for. Maybe they would not mind your showing a little decent care for the animal. Your example of better care just might teach them how to care for the dog, it also might make them realize that what they are are displaying doesn't look pretty and that in itself might get them to take better care of the dog. It sure beats the odds of a dog that at least has a life being placed where the option to remain alive may not be statistically that great.

Call the Humane Society again. Call the police too. They HAVE to investigate.

Unfortunately, after you do this, if the dog ends up missing, you will be the first one they suspect. So, maybe you SHOULD just steal the dog, without calling anyone else -- but you'll probably be suspected anyway.

Can you start feeding him?

Buying him from them would be the best option. If you can raise the price, do so.

I want to say DO WHATEVER IT TAKES to get this dog away from them -- but you can't end up in jail. You can't end up with bad neighbors -- neighbors who apparently have no respect for life. You are in a really tough situation and I don't envy you. So do whatever you can, while still staying safe.

Good luck.

Keep contacting the ASPCA or the humane society. Inform them that they did NOT follow through. Actually, they should have checked to ensure they did as they were told. Be the squeaky wheel that gets the grease! You are the dogs' only hope. Many have died due to such neglect. We see it all the time on the series Animal Cops on Animal Planet. You might also take pictures as proof!! Be sure to put the date on the picture, if your camera has that capability. You need PROOF! And your pictures may be needed later in a court of law. They could be invaluable.

A lot of larger cities and towns around the country have "rescues" for specific breeds. I would check online for either a german shephard rescue or pitbull rescue in your area. These people are very dedicated to saving specific breeds and are usually a great resource. They might also be able to put a little pressure on your local ASPCA. If your in a small town, look for one in your closet city or big town and give them a call they might still be able to help you.
Good Luck

I'd help the dog find it's way to a better home at 2 or 3 a.m. when no one is looking.
I think it's awful that when kids who are obviously abused or neglected finally get to the Dr. or hospital there's an agency to step in and remove them from bad or dangerous conditions but nothing is done for these poor animals. We need stricter laws for animal abusers.Dogs need way more than food, water, shelter and shade.

I AM IN FAVOR OF MIDNIGHT RESCUE MISSIONS. SAVE A LIFE. THEY PROBABLY WOULDN'T CARE ANYWAY, AND HAVE LIKELY HAD A DOG DIE BEFORE.

and you would not end up in jail for this. how absurd. i know about the legal system. you can steal money from a store and get probation. you can drink and drive and get probation. At worst you will get a fine (and why would you allow yourself to be caught? It's not like you'll have the dog at your house), but likely if you have a few pics and show that you called aspca, the judge will let you go and the people sound like drug addicts or something (who else starves dogs) and likely are afraid to call the cops cuz of their own criminal behavior. RELAX!)

Don't steal the dog...even if it is poorly treated, you can be arrested. I would suggest either offering to raise the price for them, or try calling a different humane society. If the dogs have gotten skinnier since then, they may do something about it now.

I wish you the best of luck, and thanks for watching out for these poor defenseless dogs.

My neighbors did that to their dog and my aunt called the police I think. They might have just directed her to the humane society, but I know it got dealt with the dog is fine now. Go talk to the police, if not keep trying the humane society, we can't let animals go mistreated.

Im proud of what you're doing! thats AWESOME!
My friend had the same problem. You could steal it but you
might have to face the consequences. You could raise the price up to about..80? and if they dont agree, steal it with consequences or call the humane society again.
Maybe you can strike or something.
