I have to go with the wife... All religions honor the marriage bonds, and furthermore, man and wife are partners and equals... A child is always beneath her father and in this case, her step-mother, in terms of ascendancy. Isn't it stated in the Ten Commandments "Honor thy father and thy mother"?

In a situation with 2nd marriage, all children should go ahead of the spouse. Anyone who thinks less, has a skewed view of family. Children are just as important as the spouses. IMO, if it's a 2nd wife, the first children have more authority.

Sounds like this step-mother is selfish. As much as she misses her husband, she should sympathize with the children. I don't see how anyone could say the wife of 7 years has more authority then the child of 30. The 2nd wife should let the children go ahead, out of respect for their loss. The man was their father, much longer then she was his wife. It would be the decent thing to do.

His spouse, she is his wife, and the spouse always comes first and then the children. And that is just sad that they cant get along through something like that.
When my mother died, my step dad (only married 6 months dated 5 years) was 2nd in line, only because my sister and her husband drove my mothers 72 mustang mach 1, and we all agreed that my moms car should be the first one in line. If they hadn't taken the car, then it would have been my step dad, then me and my family (I'm the oldest) then my sister and her family.

Why in God's name is that even an issue?

I do not understand why such a big deal is being made over this.

The wife took care of him while he was sick. If the daughter loved him so much, why wasn't she there to help with his care.

Get in the line and go to the funeral without making a scene or causing problems. At least ATTEMPT to ACT like ADULTS.

I think the wife and the daughter should put aside their differences on this very difficult day and ride in the FAMILY car together.

The spouse, it's always the spouse. Too bad they can't put their differences aside for that day. But his wife goes first.

His spouse should ride in the 1st car behing the Hearse.....

Then again.... For the memory of your beloved father, you both should get along and you both should ride in the first car behind the hearse in honor of your father and her husband.

The word is "Hearse" by the way. The most significant persons in the deceased person's life get to ride "shot gun"...is up to "y'all" to figure who that might be.
