The reason you often do not see results by just doing crunches is because although they strengthen your ab muscles, they do nothing to the layer of fat sitting on top of the muscle. No matter how strong your abs are, if you have fat sitting on top, you wont be able to see the abs. Very few people know this, which is why they dont see results after thousands of crunches. To get rid of the excess fat, you dont need to even change your diet, just do a little bit more exercise. An extra 30-40 minutes would work fine. And of course, you can do crunches to make sure that your abs are strong.

It takes A LOT of time and work, but if you really want one you want to get on some kind of core training excercise program which will be like sit-ups, plank, and other excercises. If you have body fat in front of the abs then you probably will want to go on some type of diet too.

Working out builds the muscles up so they look pretty and diet uncovers them. Our bodies hold fat in that area so you need to reduce fat for them to look good. You must stay on strict diet, do not cheat for 6 months. No sugar, no soda, no fried foods, no bread, and minimize your fat intake. Lots of water. Eat 6 small meals daily. Breakfast (Protein, Carb)- Snack (protein)-Lunch (Protein, Carb)-Snack (Protein) Dinner (Protein, Carb)-after dinner snack (protein). Lift weights, do crunches and low back extensions. Do some kind of aerobics 3 times per week. Take vitamins.

ab exercises every other day/.. only 5 - 10 mins is all it takes..
get your cardio exercise, if u play alot of sports this counts.. if not.. then u gotta do some running to burn the extra fat on the stomach..
eat lean, lots of protein, don't eat alot of pasta and bread, and sweets.. they add fat on your stomach.. have smaller portions of those...
junk food, maybe one cheat day a week if u feel u must..
