1. Their livelihood depends on determining whether you are a potential customer or a window shopper.

2. You may have played something to attract their attention

3. Sine you exude suspicion, even in this question, you may be giving off hints through body language that suggest that you are uncomfortable. If you are uncomfortable, it is in their best interests to determine why, since most customers are usually at ease in a shop, and the ones who are not are usually contemplating an action that is not in the best interests of the shop (i.e. anything from petty theft to 9/11)

4. Like it or not, it is part of their job. If you got paid to be interested in the customers and your livelihood depended on selling them things, what would you do?

I've seen several questions like this lately. If you don't like attention, buy the guitar and take it home. You can have all the privacy you want there!!

Who cares? Employees could watch to make sure you're not going to damage the instrument, make sure you don't steal anything, they may be interested in what you're playing, or they could be staring off into space and you happen to be in that line of view. This goes the same for the general public.
Do you ever happen to stare at someone and not even think about it? You could be watching a kid walk their dog, watch a teacher teacher their lesson, etc.
It's natural. Playing an instrument is entertaining to many people from an audience point of view.

I advise you to get used to it, buddy, especially if you want to play in the future.

Because that is why you picked up the guitar in the first place, so they would hear you play it.

Because you're playing a loud instrument in a quiet environment?

Isn't that why you're playing? I know when I'm anywhere and someone is playing music or singing, it seems my attention is autormatically pulled toward the sound.

Does it bother you?
