I have the 40 gig ps3 and have only used up about 12 mb and it says 31/37 gb free space.if it's the operating system what will happen when i use up 31 gb?

relaxe , me too , it is the OS that is filling the memory , games only use 200 mb MAXIMUM ! and try not to download a lot of videos

40 gb is the total storage compacity of the system. As like a PC when you install windows it takes some of the space. When you use up 31 gigs you'll have to delete some files to make room if you need it. I believe you can swap harddrives but I'm not really familiar on how easy it is.l

Trust me, you're a long, LONG way off from needing to worry about filling that 40GB.
