Gunpowder residue isn't that hard to wash off. Soap and water should get whatever anybody would be able to detect off your hands, but it only takes a few hours for the powder to be brushed or wiped completely off your hands even if you don't do anything. Depending on how much time you have after the actual shooting of the weapon I'd say wash your hands and maybe even the clothes you were wearing at the time. I'm just going to go ahead and assume you have a reasonable explanation for wanting to know the answer to that question. Hopefully...

Well the cops test for that as well when examining a suspects hands, try amputation, buts hard to chop the last hand off all alone.

This can be a potent acid. Check your MSDS (material safety data sheet) or safety warning on the label. You should be wearing gloves if your handle it. So it would not be safe to wash with it.
I have handled gunpowder. It came off with a good hand soap.
