Paul Menard is one of my favorite drivers. The other is Truex. I picked him because I felt like he was a good one. He does have one Nationwide win. I really feel Menard will win in 08. But why do people criticize him?

Basically, the same thing everyone else said, and I've said in other posts. To the poster who said Truex's father basically bought his way in too, that's not true. I knew members of the Truex family(went to school with Martin Jr's cousin), and yes they have some bucks but nowhere near as much as the Menard clan does. Sold basically everything they had racing related not quite because the cars that Martin Sr. and Jr had basically got passed down to his cousin Curtis , and believe me I visited their shop once they didn't have a whole hell of a lot there, as a matter of fact they were on the verge of shutting down when Dale Jr gave Martin his shot. Oh yeah one more thing, Truex did not win 2 Busch titles driving for DEI, he was driving for Chance 2 a joint venture between Dale Jr and Theresa.

I dont think it is a matter of not liking Menard, as it is just not having an opinion one way or the other about him. He is just one of those drivers that are driving, but not really a threat, even with the semi-top notch equipment that DEI puts under him.
I dont hold what his father has done for him, because every family of any driver in any series has put serious money into their career. Just because his father had more money to play with shouldnt be a strike against Menard.

I think the real reason a lot of people don't care for him is his dad..Listen to T-bone he has it right...I don't dislike him, he is just not one of my favorite's.. Truex Jr is a great driver, I just do not think Menard is going to be that good, maybe in Nationwide/Busch series, he might get another win, but Sprint Cup, I doubt it.

Not only did his daddy buy his way into the sport, but daddy was dating Teresa. (Truex's dad bought his way in too. They sold everything they had, racing wise and paid DEI to let him race in the Busch series. I heard it was around $1,000,000 to race for them)
Yes, Truex family did have to pay for him to get started at Chance 2 Motorsports. However he proved himself and earned his full time ride. He then won back to back championships. Menard is disliked because he has not proved himself like Truex. I think Truex is a good driver, but I haven't seen that Menard has what it takes at cup level yet. I am also from the Northeast and live very close to Lime Rock, where Truex used to race the Busch North Series. I also worked for an Official NASCAR shop and always had full access to all the NASCAR races there.

Paul Menard has been racing in other venues for years. He is not new to motorsports. Yes, he has a dad that can foot the bill but, that is because he is not interested in his share of the Menard's money. None of John's children have interest the workings of the Menard's chain of Home Improvement stores and have went out to be involved in other interests such as Paul has.
Just because someone has money does not call for ridicule. John has also put out money in the past for Robbie Gordon and others.
As for who has dated who in the past, is none of our business.

Because he's a no talent hack that wouldn't have a cup ride without daddy's sponsorship. Truex is a real racer and I respect him a lot more than Paul.

I have no idea. I personally love paul menard. I think hes a great driver. It doesnt matter what your background is,it should matter if you are a good driver. It's like Dale Jr. His dad was a great driver. HE is a great driver.

Paul is a very nice guy, I met him in Texas and I seen him signing all kinda stuff. He wasnt arogant or nothing, I dont wish nothing bad on anyone. He has a big name and I think people may expect too much out of him.
Maybe Mark Martin will buddy up to him and help him get it figured out.

Go look at his stats on nascar.com for example. I don't dislike him, he just is not the same caliber of driver as most of the others. There is controversy that his father's support of DEI basically bought him a ride.
