How long has he been in the crate? If you have just put him in he is trying to get you to release him. In that case, you need to ignore him until he settles down. Never let him out of the crate because he is carrying on (unless he has been in for more than 4 hours). I crate my dogs when I go out-during the day when I am here I leave the doors open & they will often go into the crate by themselves for a sleep. Try to teach your dog that the crate is a good place - feed him in the crate and praise him when he settles down.

A puppy is like a small baby. It has a lot of energy but also requires a lot of sleep. Dogs are social, pack animals. If he was recently removed from his mother, brother and sisters it is hard to be isolated and alone. Make sure he has adequate play time with different people throughout the day. Does he have a comfortable blanket to lay on? Does he have several toys to help him with his desire to teethe and to prevent distructive chewing? Remember, he is just a baby, and think about how quickly you get antsy when confined to a chair at school. If you are doing all the above and he is getting exercise during the day,but still seems to be overly anxious, you may need to consult the vet.

he's locked up. It sucks. He's protesting. You can either STOP putting him in a locked cage (fine to use crate as a voluntary den) and take the TIME to potty train and puppy proof your dog's living space, or you can IGNORE the behavior until he realizes you don't care about his discomfort and you're not letting him out. He WILL quit the protesting soon, maybe a few weeks. This is controversial, expect a few thumbs down for my dislike of crating, which is a NEW trendy way to train and "supervise" your dog, which sounds a lot like the wrong easy way out to me, not to mention cruel. Solitary confinement in a small cell is not fun, no matter how you dress it up.

He most likely needs a trip outside to do his "piddle business". Make sure he gets out at least once an hour to relieve himself.

Also if he is new to the crate he will cry a little until he gets used to it. After all he is just a baby.

he needs to use the bathroom! My dog did that,I thought he wanted to play, but as soon as i let him out he piddled on my carpet...
If he's already gone, then let him out,he's probably suffocating in there.let him sleep outside of the crate for a while,or maybe play with him before he goes to bed so he'll be alot more tired. You can also make the crate more comfortable for him.Buy a bed for it,put in a few toys, maybe a water bottle or a heated bed/pillow.

He's been in there too long. Needs exercise, needs food, needs to go outside to do his business. I hope he is not in his crate when you are at home and awake. If he is part of your family, and you are home treat him as a family member and get him out of that crate.

How long has it been since your puppy went outside to go for itself? Dogs in a crate don't like to do anything in the place they have to sleep in. Maybe its telling you it has to do something.

He doesn't like cramped crates. He wants to get out of the crate.
