One thing you need to understand is that dog breeding is not a money making business. Reputable breeders barely break even on breeding. You need a job to support this hobby. Your first step is to visit local shows in your area and speak with breeders of the breed you are interested. You purchase a show quality puppy/dog and have the breeder as your mentor. You also need to study various bloodlines and pedigrees of your breed. You also need to study dog genetics. Once you have some basic foundations, you may then start talking about breeding with your mentor. You don't want to do backyard breeding. Learn the right way and head to the right direction with your dogs.

Which breed? Join the local club dedicated to that breed, and then attend local dog shows to get an idea of the breed standard. You must learn about what lines are out today (sort of like dog families) and which you feel represents the breed best. Any breeder would likely be willing to give you advice about breeding, including the legal ways you can protect yourself and your dogs! I must warn you, it is not a lucrative career. If you are financially stable, it is an excellent hobby, and a lifelong passion, but anyone who says you will make money at it is either not a respectable breeder (they do not use vet services, run genetic tests, show their dogs....) or they are delusional! Good luck, God bless!

First educate yourself as much as you can about dogs in general - their behavior, training, genetics, how to read a pedigree, health concerns and testing, etc., etc., etc. Go to shows, field trials, obedience trials and other competitions. Join your local kennel club and start finding out what dog sport is all about, and what part of it you want to participate in. Then decide which breed you're most interested in, and research that breed thoroughly. Locate an established, reputable breeder and ask them to mentor you. Decide what your breeding goals are, and develop a plan that will work toward that goal. Finally, locate the very best stock you can, and campaign that dog or dogs in appropriate competitions. Once you've established a network of contacts, and your dog(s) has a proven record, you might be able to arrange a mating with someone. If you go about it right, it's a long-term commitment of years of effort, and many thousands of dollars.

Don't expect to make any money out of it.

Contact the AKC for information about the breed of interest.
First you need a good brood female; contact some breeders.
Then you'll have to campaign her through dog-shows.
The better your established line the better your sales.
This is not a get-rich-quick pursuit, you need dedication.

1st you should take the dog out for dinner and drinks...then invite him/her back to your place, and see how things progress...but remember..."No means NO"
