I am 21 years old and I know this may sound strange but my mom wants me to get a gun permit and buy a gun since I have my own car and am alone a lot of the time. Quesion is is it against the law for me to have a gun permit and to carry a gun in my car? Where do I get a permit?

Since you didn't mention where you live, you'll have to check with the State Police in your area.

Some states require the completion of a safety course before issuing a permit and all states require a concealed carry permit to carry the weapon loaded in your car or concealed on your person.

you can get a concealed weapons permit at your county courthouse. if you have a permit you can keep your gun anywhere you want. the courthouse will give you a little booklet telling if there is any place that you can not carry your gun. i have a permit and i carry my gun in my purse everywhere that i go (except the bar). it is really easy to get a permit, you go to the courthouse and fill out some paperwork, get finger printed, get a background check and if everything comes back ok they mail you your permit. if you get pulled over or something you do have to notify the officer that you have a loaded gun in your vehicle and where it is located.

Check with your local authorities. In most areas, the car is considered part of tour house, so no permit is need to have it in the car. Also, in most areas, there is no permit needed to buy a handgun.
