If you get the right angle on it, it's possible, but i would not try and get that close to a bear

Ha! Ha! Ha! HA!!!! That was a good one! Other than a seriously ticked off, annoyed bear, a .22 wouldn't kill him. Have you ever seen the actual size of a Grizzly? They are huge! And even bigger if you happen to run into one on the trail and live to tell about it. Do yourself a favor and adopt these Bear Rules on How to Stay Breathing in One Piece:

Bear Rule #1: Avoid all Grizzlies
Bear Rule #2: Don't ever tangle in any way with a Grizzly. (Especially don't annoy them with a .22 cal pea shooter!)
Bear Rule #3: You don't have to run faster than a Grizzly, only faster than your ex-friends who are with you.

Enjoy your time in Grizzly Country!

A few years ago an autopsy was done on a grizzly, they found something like 45 different size bullets in it that had been shot at it over several years time. A couple years ago I went to see a speaker talking about grizzlies. He told of the time when he was talking to a couple game wardens about the right size gun to use. He told them that he carried a 357 magnum with him. They said it would work. When he saw a grizzly coming to attack him to simply point the gun to his own temple, then pull the trigger.

It definitely is possible, but the shot placement has to right on in the brain.
