Heres some questions...
1. Does your finish/paint on the feed ramp wear off easily?
2. How much did you get yours for? Condition?
3. Which is more accurate, German mauser or Yugo mauser?

I shoot 8mm Mausers a bit and have several of each, the 98k and the M48, plus a few more. You didn't mention them, but the as a group Czech VZ-24 is by far the best made, smoothest action and most accurate 8mm military Mauser ever made.

1. I suspect you have a Russian capture Mauser. The thick Russian black-'blueing' will wear off in the areas subject to friction, giving some concern when that white metal becomes exposed. Don't worry and keep shooting, that's expected. That finish may be pretty but's it's not original.

2. I have some near excellent ones in each. The Germans were expensive in the condition and if they were matching numbers. This is years now I've had them, upwards of $800 each. I have a well used ugly one that's valued at over $1000 because of the code and it being a 1945 date. Also have a couple of recent black RCs that cost under $200 each, wholesale. Understand that while fun to shoot, which I do, these are historical relics that's value is not necessarily based on accuracy.

I have an almost new M48a Yugo that cost I think $129, plus I got 5 good used ones for like $325 including shipping, which was what $65 each a few years back. It's nice having a C&R license.

3. I have a couple of beat to hell Turk Mausers that will shoot the pants off the 98ks or M48s at 300+ yards. Really. Those long barreled Turks look like dogs but you can find 1-in-5 that shoots incredibly well.

The Yugos, not having been through fighting the Red Army in inhumane conditions for many winters, tend to have better bores and muzzles and shoot better. One of mine has been converted to a sporter and it works great with a scope on it.

As I said, the Czech 24 is the best Mauser ever in 8mm. When the Czechs joined up with the Nazis (yes, they did, but they like everyone to forget that fact) the Germans immediately took possession of all the Czech Mausers in armory and allotted them to the elite German SS units that liked them better than the ones made in Berlin. The actions are like butter.

Now, not trying to get ahead of your collection......the best Mauser ever made was made in 6.5x55 and it's Swedish.

(Be warned, as you can see these things are an addiction)

Don't ever buy a Mitchell's Mauser. I have a ethical issue with a company trying to pawn off 1948 made Yugoslavian rifles as WWII German K98s. They are a fraud, stay away.

German K98 is the best in bluing, Accuracy, Value & quality...... I had mine glass bedded on a Bishop Monte-Carlo sportsterized walnut gun stock & had the bolt turned down.* I can shoot three (3)* shot groups at a 100yards consistently you can cover with a 50 cent piece.* Great rifle.* I don't recall what it cost me, because that was in the year 1964 when I bought it in like new condition.*

1. It should not be painted, it should be blued.
2. $350 excellent condition from Mitchell's Mausers
3. German. the german ones were made with higher quality pieces while the yugo were made cheaper. When moving on to AK-47's that a different story but. . .
