I'm 16 and I believe in God and I try to live a good life; no violence, stealing, adultery etc.

I once said to a couple that I was a Christian but then they said that I'm not a Christian because I drink, smoke and go out to nightclubs.

Note: I am Presbyterian (Protestant denomination)

They would seem to have a very narrow view of what being a Christian means. I had thought when I read the question that maybe they just liked to live healthy lives and take care of their bodies. From their remark it would appear more sinister and maybe they think most pleasure should be absent from 'good' Christians lives? Ignore them, faith is a personal thing and they are just expressing an opinion. How you choose to live is up to you, it doesn't make you a bad Christian.

Well I believe that you must ask Jesus to come into your life and believe that he died on the cross so that we may be forgiven for our sins to become a christian. God gave us freewill in our lives to choose our eternity which is hell or heaven. I also believe that once you are saved you are always a christian and can be forgiven from all sin by repenting. I also believe that when you attend the right church you will want to live a more christian lifestyle. This is why I go to a nondenominational church because what we are taught is directly from the bible we are christains non religious. Those people are wrong do the research.

I'm a Christian and that balcony from what they told you about drinking and smoking! Drinking and smoking is not a sin! The scripture doesn't say anything about smoking being a sin, but its sin to be drunk from drinking wine (beer too).

Its just that you're not walking or devoting with God or putting God in first on EVERYTHING you go or make decisions. Its like putting God on hold and spend the fun time in the darkness at nightclubs. You would need to have a good relationship with the Lord. Ill pray for you.

I don't remember the bit about ciggies in the Bible!

Many Christians don't drink because they see drunkenness leading to immoral behaviour, violence, selfishness and so on. Come to that so do Muslims.

I guess smoking wise they have just taken on board the health message, my body is a temple and all that. I don't think its anything specifically to do with religion, unless its to do with disproving of anything that people might actually enjoy. Religions tend to disprove of enjoyment too.

Quite a lot of people of other faiths - or none - don't drink alcohol or smoke either, for a whole variety of reasons.

Everyone is going to have different beliefs and ways to interpret the Bible. Especially if the "couple" you speak of is from a different denomination, they are going to see things differently. However, many people would just say you aren't a "good" Christian because you are wild and rowdy. Drinking, smoking, and going out to some places at your age is illegal, so maybe once you hit 18 and 21 they'll lighten up a little.

It is because your culture has an idea that smoking is a sin. In Greece...which has so many churches and monasteries...just walk a strait line..and eventually you will run into one...smoking is huge. Same with Russia, Romania and other countries.

I had a Russian Orthodox Church confessional book..on how to confess..and what to confess...smoking was listed only as confessing to "smoking too much". Drinking is not a sin...but being drunk and out of control is. Going to nightclubs isn't a sin...but going there to hook up with one night stands..is. Everything in moderation.

You`re 16 and smoke and drink and go out to night clubs.........wow........I guess they think that since Christian means Christ like, that you are not Christ like so you are not a Christian.
Believing in God is good. Trying to live a good life is good also.
But so many people who consider themselves Christians will not enter the kingdom of heaven. It is not because God doesn`t love them, it is because the people
themselves didn`t want to do it the way God wanted them to.
So if you disobey God and do not do what
God says to do to get to heaven, then you will not go there.
It doesn`t matter what religion you are, God said to believe on His Son, Jesus Christ and you will be saved from condemnation. You cannot save yourself from sin by trying to live a good life. You cannot go to hell for smoking and drinking.
But alot of Christians do not smoke or drink because they have given their life to Jesus and He has taken these vices away from them. It happened to me. It wasn`t overnight. As a matter of fact it took 8 years. Then one evening as I was smoking a strange and wonderful thing happened. I heard in my head a voice that said..instant
gratification...and all of a sudden I knew that when I put out the cigarette that I would not feel the need for another one. And it has been 6 1/2 years since that day.

Most of the others have already answered with the body being a temple answers and I agree. However, no one should say you're not a Christian because you do those things. We all make mistakes and sin but that doesn't make you less of a Christian. Your salvation is between you and God, don't let anyone else put you down.

At age 16 you should NOT be drinking, smoking and going to nightclubs. You're going to look used, abused and recycled before the age of 30.

PS, most the christians I know, drink, smoke, do drugs, have premarital sex, commit adultery, steal, lie, cheat, etc. Just like everyone else.

i do no longer think of that that's incorrect to drink, i think of that's incorrect to get decrease than the effect of alcohol and that i think of that's incorrect to smoke, as the two are hurting your physique - something a Christian isn't meant to do. working in a pub is a sticky subject. we are fairly in charge for offering an alcoholic with alcohol or permitting others to sin by means of having decrease than the effect of alcohol. we are actually not incorrect while our consumers drink moderately and don't get decrease than the effect of alcohol. So, that's not completely incorrect or completely perfect. besides the shown fact that, interior the U.S., that's legally the accountability of the bartender to refuse alcohol to those that seem to be intoxicated. this isn't consistently enforced, besides the shown fact that it does provide the bartender the main suitable to refuse the alcohol and to be subsidized up by means of the regulation. i think of that's greater suitable all in all to easily seek for yet another job ASAP.
