I gotta say A) the constant weight gain. He's from Oxnard, California which is maybe 20 miles from where i live, and there is almost nothing to do out there but eat, sleep, and have sex, i'm not even joking either he's from a farm town, i don't like him at all because he always talks about how he had a rough life and he grew up in a bad neighborhood and to be honest i have never seen any part of Oxnard that closely resembles that at all. Also another thing that contributed to his downfall was after the De La Hoya fight, while training he hurt his back pretty bad and hasn't been the same since.

All of the above, the constant weight gain ruined his body much like Arturo Gatti. The steroids didn't help him because he was knocked out by De La Hoya anyway. The beating he took from Trinidad was brutal, he was never the same after he fought Tito.

It was a combination of A,B, and C. In between some fights he weighed as much as 180lbs the month before a fight but the beating from Trinidad did the most damage to him.

C
Saw that fight against TT. It would have been best if FV suffered a first round KO. As it stood, he took a sustained beatdown and was never the same. Something like what happened to Mugabi after Hagler beat him down.
After the beatdown, Oscar felt confident enough to grant Vargas a fight, and FV suffered another beatdown, and the backslide began. I sometimes think that FV could have had a more succuessful career had his management avoided Trinidad and De La Hoya. If memory serves, FV didn't even have 20 pro fights when he got into the ring with TT, and I think the lack of experience bit him in the butt. Seemed like Fernando was happy to have a good offensive game and didn't work on other aspects of boxing that could have served him against Trinidad.

A, B, and C. It's real bad, because he should've done better than he did.
