if the area is enclosed/fenced in, and there is shelter and water available overnight and some toys to keep him busy, also if the weather is hot add a couple ice cubes to the water before you leave him out or an old towel if it is cold.

i wouldn't leave him out there just yet though, maybe wait for him to get used to the area by leaving him out there to play for awhile, after maybe 2 weeks of getting him accustomed to the place you could do it without worry.

Stop giving her water 3 hours before bed and take her out right before you crate her. You need to ignore her cries for attention at night-they have a hold me cry and a I have to pee cry so you will need to listen closely to each. The pee cry is more high pitched. If she is messing in the crate it may be too big for her since dogs usually don't mess where they sleep so try putting up a partition of some sort. Yes absolutely take her out even if she has messed and say go potty. By 8 weeks old she should be able to go 3-4 hours without messing. Take her out and put her right back in the crate without giving her the attention she is looking for other than good job (whether she peed or not when you bring her in). She should stop whining after a week or 2 and potty training all depends on how consistent you are with her. I trained my Dane in a little over a week but some take longer some shorter. Any training requires consistency by everyone in the family-say the same words every time and do the same thing every time. Good luck and ask again if you need anymore info:>)

Labradors are not meant to be outside dogs especially at 8 weeks old. Even in a warm climate, there are many dangers to a dog that is left outside at night.

Labs thrive when they have constant human interaction. Unless you are willing to spend all of your time outside including sleeping, you should expect to end up with a very "obnoxious" lab. Labs that are left to be backyard dogs become diggers, barkers, and escape artists extraordinaire. Many a lab has been given up at animal control because they are "bad" dogs when in reality they just ended up with bad owners.

Why did you get a dog if you want to leave him outside?

I am a lab rescue volunteer and if someone marks that their dog will be an outside dog or sleep outside, they are immediately turned down for adoption from us. Dogs aren't convenience items. If you only want them around when you have the time or are bored, then get a stuffed one or one of those new nintedogs.

Your dog will likely not escape at first, he's only 8 weeks old. But if he does start to escape, don't use a leash as a substitute for a tie-out. No dog should ever be tied up in the backyard, but many are because owners don't care enough to spend time with them or to train them.

Why do you want the dog to sleep outside? Technically I guess he could as long as there isn't any extreme weather. However, I would hope you got this pet as a companion and a youngster especially needs to be inside with you!

If he does sleep outside, then yes, a leash would probably be a good idea unless you have a fenced yard or kennel run. Otherwise he is going to wander off or get stolen.

Not even maybe. To start with it's not had all of it's shots. It could pick up heaven knows what. It could be attacked by other animals, stolen the list is endless.

Why would you even get the dog just to let it live outside? If you don;t want the dog to be a part of the family and live inside either take him back to the breeder or to a no kill shelter where they can find him a real home.

I don't think putting one outside this Young is good it has just left its Moms and this is a stressful time for it besides this young any thing can happen to it and it is not safe to be where other pets has been till it has had all 4 sets of shots and the rabies this is around 4 months of age

Absolutely not! He isn't vaccinated fully and would be very prone to disease and infection. Besides, a lab is a companion dog, they do not do well emotionally and socially being isolated outside for long periods of time, especially overnight.
He would also need to be treated for fleas and ticks preventative, and he's not nearly old enough for that either.
He would be likely to have separation anxiety issues if you were to seclude him to the outdoors, away from his pack (you)
Dogs need to be with people...

If you buy a dog/puppy you should treat it like family how would you like it if some one made you sleep out side? dogs are social animals and if you bring one into your house it is automaticly part of your "pack" so to speak. And if you do make your puppy sleep out side it would be a good idea if you put him on a leash! But i need more information on your dogs aditutied and health before i could say if he is able to sleep out side.

I have 2 goats and i rarely make them sleep outside.!!!

Lets Make you sleep outside!!!!! Thats wrong of you to chain a poor puppy up!!!!

No puppy should sleep outside! If you however want your puppy to sleep outside, wait till he has all of his shots. You say you have a covered area, is it enclosed? If so, a leash would not be necessary, but if not, YOU NEED SOMEWAY TO CONTAIN YOUR DOG!!!!

Please do not make this poor lab sleep outside though. Dogs are pack animals, that need to be with their "pack" or family, and having them sleep outside is like a punishment!!!!!!!!

No, I wouldn't recommend it. At 8 weeks he's not fully socialized yet -- if you put him outside, he won't fully bond with you or your family. Personally I don't see the point of getting a dog as friendly as a lab and sticking him outside.

No dog should be chained up outside much less a PUPPY! What kind of person chains up a baby?? Get that baby a crate and crate train him to the house and make the perfect family dog out of him. To chain up a dog outside is a life sentence without parole.

Let's chain you up outside.
