Unfortunately your friend has to find the money to take the dog to a vet. It could be anything from kennel cough to as you say Pneumonia. My dog had Pneumonia last week. He got very sick in a hurry. He may well of died if I had not of got him to a vet right away. Your friend must do the same.

Good luck!

She really does need to take him to the vet. Given that you don't know where he's been and you don't give a vaccine history (although if she "doesnt have the money to take him to the vet" it is very likely that he has not had the full round of puppy vaccinations) it could be pneumonia or worse (distemper, for example). Being loose for two days might cause him to be tired, but he should eat and drink and shouldn't be overly lethargic.

No telling what the poor think has been through. HE SHOULD GO TO THE VET FOR A CHECKUP. No excuses. It is her responsibility to make sure the pup is taken care of. The vet credit card is a good thing, and most people are excepted.

In lieu of taking him to the vet, you need to start him on antibiotics, which you can get at a feedstore, a dehumidifier, you would want to add vet RX dog and puppy remedy to the dehumidifier, put him in the bathroom, run the dehumidifier with the med. in it.

It sounds like bronchitis and kennel cough.
Im not a vet.
this could lead to pneumonia.
If she can, i reccomend taking him to the vet.

Nope, nothing you can do except rest, food, and water.

Take it to the vet. Dogs are a responsibility, and that includes sometimes paying for the responsibility.

Contact the local animal control officer and see if there is a clinic near you. That might help with the cost.

Try www.carecredit.com for vet bill credit card.
Your friends dog sounds very ill. And I'm just taking a wild guess that the dog has not received any vaccines...

Since your friend does not know where the dog was it might be a really good idea to take him to the vet it may save his life.
Good Luck!

It never hurts to pick up a phone and make a call...

Explain to the vet your financial situation and see what they can do. Otherwise, don't make the poor animal suffer. Get it some help!
