El Salvador is good. I've been there many times, along with Guatemala and Honduras. I mainly say El Salvador because of the currency; they use US dollars. It's a very friendly country with great weather, food, and basically culture. I don't know...maybe I'm being biased, but it's hard not to be. You should really research each country and ask people who've actually traveled there.

If you get twenty different answers you are going to get twenty different opinions. Each and every Central American country has something special to offer in the way of beauty and things to do. Panama, Costa Rica and Belize have the best infrastructures since their economies are fueled by more foreign investments. All three are also the most expensive, by far, to visit or live. As far as security, you can visit any CA country and using the same common sense you would in a strange area in your own country, do just fine. As already suggested, do a bit of research, pick the one that appeals most to you and go for it.

I would say that Central America is one of the best developing regions apart from the Middle East and Indian subcontinent. These are myn rankings for each Central American country from good to bad:
Good Countries:

1) Costa Rica
2) Panama
3) Belize
4) Mexico

Average Countries:
5) Honduras
6) Nicaragua

Bad Countries (No offense to anyone from these countries):
7) Guatemala
8) El Salvador

These were my rankings though. I hope you're satisfied with these rankings for the 8 countries from the Central American region.

I have only been to one, Costa Rica. I like it, and if you are only visiting, it is O.K. If you had to live here, however, it is a backwards place with badly designed sewage, corrupt socialist government, and generally makes you feel happy that the place you come from is so much better.

I only have 3 favorite countries in Central America:

1) Nicaragua - I was born/live here and this country is the best i my opinion. We have been rated the safest country in C.A. (google it) and we are abound in biodiversity and natural beauty.

2) Honduras - I have family from Honduras and many friends. The people are great and friendly also. Honduras is also abound in natural beauty.

3) Belize - Many say Belize is too different to be part of Central America but i don't see why. All C.A. countries who border the Caribbean have a diverse population. Those who live in the Caribbean coast of all C.A. countries are mostly of black decent and they have wonderful and beautiful traditions. Belize also has wonderful sites and natural beauty.

I know Panama and Costa Rica are nice countries to visit. I don't think any of them are bad.

Don't listen to the guy who answered before me because Paraguay and Uruguay are not even in Central America and Paraguay isnt even beside the sea for there to be any beaches

Lets be honest here people!!! All countries in central American are nice, rich in culture and traditions. However, "good or bad" can be different from me than others so I would suggest that you should just try anyone once a year, since they are only 7 countries and it isn't expensive!!!
My list goes from:
Honduras
Costa Rica
Panama
Guatemala
Belize
El Salvador
Nicaragua

THE BEST COUNTRIES IN CENTRAL AMERICA ARE
1. COSTA RICA
2. BELIZE
3. PANAMA

I WOULDNT RECOMMEND THE REST BECAUSE OF ECONOMICAL AND SOCIAL PROBLEMS RIGHT NOW.

P.S- MEXICO ISNT CENTRAL AMERICA, IT IS NORTH AMERICA!!!

Costa Rica has by far the highest standard of living, the least poverty, crime and disease, the most stable democracy, etc.
Aside from some awesome beaches and rainforest, though, it might be the dullest of the bunch.

Guatemala might be the most interesting to visit, with its Maya Indians, ancient ruins, colonial architecture, fantastic scenery, etc. It is however very poor and has high crime and other serious problems.

I like Belize. If youre not a spanish speaker.. English is the official language. Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua have a little more crime but are nice. Panama is great but it is becoming too touristy. I like guatemala, but the people there are UBER poor and you need to be careful. I dont know a lot about El Salvador. If I had to choose ONE and it was my first time, Id probably go to Belize. Especially if you are a diver or snorkeler. Have fun. And, BTW, Mate is from Argentina, which isnt in Central America either.
