I know that a blue ray disc player is awsome with a 1080p lcd tv. But will it look better than a regular dvd player or upconverter on a 720p tv?

Absolutely! Why does HDTV look better on a 720p set than watching SDTV? You're coming from a much higher quality source, and the result is a petter picture.

It's pretty much what we has when DVD came out 10 years ago and everyone at that time had regular analog sets. DVD's gave such a better image because of the fact they were a Digital source. Now that's where we are getting at with HD-DVD and Blu-ray

HD DVD/Blu-Ray will although look large on a 720p set. do now no longer concern approximately 1080p, at 40" you wont have the flexibility to be sure the version between 1080i and 1080p. additionally, the Xbox 360 upload-on does not help 1080p output in any case.

definitely. a normal dvd player is essentially 480p. blu-ray can output in 720p or 1080i or 1080p. blu-ray components are superior to normal dvd players because they HAVE to be. blu-ray will shine even on a 720p display and you will be satisfied. honestly you can buy a $300 blu player while a really good dvd player (marantz, rotel, etc) could run you double or triple that price! stick with blu and you will be impressed.
