He (and all pre-christian pagan religions also) got it from hinduism. The idea of purifying someone with water is an age old ancient tradition, which existed for centuries before john the baptist, and still exists today.

Not sure, but I do know that the idea of baptism is not unique to Christianity. It was used in many pagan religions as well, for example Norsemen would sprinkle water on the heads of infants just like they do today. Different deities, of course, but the idea is the same.

First of all you must know who this John the Baptist was in the plan of God, a man sent by God, once you know this then everything will fall into place.
Did you know that the Jordan River in Hebrew is called the River of death? as it flows into the dead sea.
So when Jesus was Baptised by John the Baptised all our sins was washed away not even one was held back, is that not good news?

Ritual baptism was very important to many cultures. It was part of Egyptian spiritual practice, Judaism, and Roman tradition.
