I remember when I got an Olympus stylus 3 mp camera 3 years ago and wow, it was 250 back then.

now with 250 bucks I can get 8 mega pixels.

is it really that big of a difference?

Unless you are doing really big enlargement then NO it's not a major issue you can get standard size prints and up to 8 x12 with 3 to 4 megapixels... If it's on the camera and a resonable price then go for it... I would look at optical zoom (go for higher) and other options OVER megapixels... Like lens quality OR rechargeable battery, size of camera etc.....
