Most of the world. Actually the US is trailing some other places in the world.

Digital TV is rather inevitable, it's just a matter of when the technology became cheap enough for consumer products.

There are many analogies in history.

Sailing ships were replaced by steam powered vessels. (late 19th century)

Horses were replaced by cars. (Early 20th century)

Passenger ships were replaced by jet aircraft. (1960s)

Slide rules were replaced by pocket calculators. (1970s) (Another analog to digital transition! When I learned to use a slide rule in 1971, I couldn't have imagined that 5 years later I would replace it with a calculator that cost less than $100, trigs & logs included!)
