Every time I see people on TV who were saved from perilous situations, they're thanking God or Jesus, yet there's always accompanying footage of rescue workers saving them. What's up with that???

Well, do you think God will send His angels to rescue someone in perilous situation, that's absurd. Lets assume you found yourself washed off a ship by some freak rogue wave and were in the icy sea minutes away from death. You earnestly pray that God would rescue you or just send someone to help you. Then you see a helicopter hovering above you for they spotted you in the dead of night, and rescued you...surely you would also first thank God for that, if not then I throw my hand up in frustration.

They thank God, because if it were not for God, the rescue workers could have:

been delayed, arrving too late to be of assistance, let alone save lives

could have stopped for coffee or something

gotten lost

been detoured

held up in traffic

could have had 'car trouble'

run out of gas

had an accident

become ill en route

a fatality could have overtaken one or more of them

family trouble could have caused them to turn around, sending others to do the work, who would have arrived late

and so on...

Just because rescue workers show up, does not mean God had nothing to do with it. If not for God's involvement, rescue situations could have completely different outcomes.

On the subject of thanking people who often put themselves in jeopardy to save lives--why wouldn't they get thanked? If someone helps me out of a jam, I acknowledge that God put that person in that spot for just that moment, but I thank the person also. After all, even good samaritans and rescue workers can still refuse to help once they arrive on the scene.

Hope I helped. God bless you. †

Have a healthy, happy, and blessed 2008!!!!

Maybe the rescue workers should sit around and wait to see if Jesus works in helpful ways.. like pulling people out of burning homes and crumpled cars.

Maybe doctors should stop treating the overly religious as well and let them get miraculously healed. Don't need meds for that.

in times of despair, and agony, we often turn to God for the answer to our peril. It is this panic button that we all have that causes people to give God the glory for the efforts of rescue workers. God gave us this panic button so that when we have dug ourselves into a pit we cannot get out of and everything falls down around us we will call upon him, and he will answer. Does he want us to get to that point? No, but we are stiff necked enough to get ourselves to that point before we will acknowledge that he is real and we need him. When you truly cry out to him he will be there for you all.

Jesus saved us from sins and he saved our soul. Rescue workers save us or people/animals from things such as fires, huricanes, and tornadoes. Also, people say "Thankya Jesus!" because, they are thanking the lord for the rescuer for coming and saving them or, for letting the person live for just a bit longer. Hope I answeres your question.

No, Jesus does not save people. Individuals get themselves into situations that may need others to help them. We all make choices, so therefore we have to accept them as to whatever they turn out to be. Your reference to Jesus is in the sense that he spoke of a Kingdom that would bring many blessings to people around the world. If you read and follow his words from the Sermon on the Mount, study his way of dealing with others kindly and to show love for your fellowman, then you will be "saved" from the hardships of this world. You have to abide by Bible principles and accept Jesus as the ransom sacrifice for all mankind in order to make it into that earthly paradise.

There was a man in the middle of the ocean who was drowning. A boat came up to him and the people called out to him to come aboard. He said "No, God will save me." Later, andother boat came by and the same thing happened. Finally the man drowned. When he got to Heaven he asked God why He hadn't saved him. God replied, "I sent you two boats, dummy!"

God(Jesus) sent to rescue workers so they both save you

Because they think that it was God and/or Jesus who sent the rescue workers. I can buy into their thinking, as long as they thank the people who did the dirty work.
