So I have found myself in the situation where I have been offered a monkey, a japanese macaque actually, and I am not sure that he will be good buds with my cat.

I want to make sure they will be a good fit together. Here are some details of my cat:

He is all gray
He likes to eat hotdogs with mustard and lobster tail on his birthday
He does not have any claws
He always has a runny nose
He likes to sleep between my legs, when I am sleeping with a broad, he will sleep between the broads legs.
His favorite song is "The Elwood Strut"

I do not want this to turn into Monkeyshines, because if my monkey does not get along with my cat, I will break its neck (the monkey's, not the cats)

Will they be friends?

For the love of god, please do not get a monkey.

Aside from the ethical concerns this raises, its illegal in most states to own one.

And more than likely, it will scare the hell out of your cat and destroy your house.

Nooooo you do not want a monkey for a pet! They are like a child stuck in terrible twos forever! The best animal companion for a cat is another cat or maybe a toy breed of dog (not a terrier though - they will chase your cat). A monkey will drive you BOTH insane. You also have to change a monkey's diapers several times a day - do you really want to have to do that? At least litter boxes only need scooping once a day!

Especially the part about diseases, etc. You wouldn't want the monkey to kill your cat from disease or mishandling would you? I know I would be devasted and probably go to jail for animal cruelty to the monkey if some stupid monkey killed one of my cats!

No, they won't be friends. Do a quick search on "pet monkeys" and you'll find that they can become quite aggressive once they reach sexual maturity. "pet" monkeys turn on people and bite them. Your cat has no defense against a 66 lb (at maturity) Japanese macaque, especially if he has no claws. For the safety of your cat and your future house guests and children, say NO to getting the monkey. If not in the wild, he belongs in a zoo.

It is rare that these two animals of different specie get along , two cats would get used to each other if they live in the same house but a monkey is really different from dogs and cats :it is like asking that ET and a human live under the same roof , you better check about similar experiences before trying it yourself!

Monkeys do NOT make good pets, whether they are only pets or with a companion. They make messes, they need massive amounts of fresh fruits, and they cannot be "house trained." A monkey belongs in the jungle.

If you want to get a friend for your cat, adopt a small dog or another cat.

I have no idea of a cat and a monkey would be good friends. If you need a companion for your cat, just get another cat to be friends with him.

Do not get a monkey! They are filthy and very domineering. Stick with the cat. :))

Monkeys are like little kids. I've seen them harassing dogs (pulling their tails, etc). I bet your cat won't like having his tail pulled.
