We got this 5 week old puppy from some neglectful owners (she has already been separated from her mother) about 5 months ago, and we were told she was half pitbull, half dingo. Which of course we were skeptical of. but now it turns out that they were apparently telling the truth.
Her eyes, face shape and ears are a dead giveaway..

But heres what I am wondering, I know there is a breed called an american dingo, or "carolina dog", and I'm trying to determine wether she is actually a "carolina dog" or really a mix between a pitbull and a dingo..

I just don't believe that anyone would have a real dingo in california, which is where we are.But she does have alot of the facial features of pitbulls.

here are her pics

Also, here I have gathered some pictures of carolina dogs and dingoes.

The first two are carolina dogs and the last 3 australian dingoes.

No, she is not a basenji or a corgi. Even trainers agree that she has some kind of dingo in her, she has the same eye shap/markings and dingo markings under her chin.

Carolina dogs have been proven to be closely related to dingoes.

Also, canid hybrids are possible and getting more common.

Judging solely from your pictures, I'd say carolina dog. I'd find it HIGHLY unlikely there is a dingo roaming around in California somewhere.

You have one adorable dog there, by the way :)

Dingo Pitbull Mix

She could be half Australian Cattle Dog. Some very uneducated people call them Dingoes because of their Dingo blood & I still get people stopping me on the street asking if I have a dingo dog. ACD's in their breed standard are supposed to look like shorter, stockier Dingoes. She almost looks like a fawn version of my spayed rescue blue girl Didji with the longer snout & big ears.

There are also red ACD's & they very closely resemble the dingo because of their orangey colour. Even blue ACD's have the dingo face!! Also ACD's have very powerful jaws & can look like a pitbull. My younger blue female ACD always gets mistaken for a pitty.

Some breeders who don't know exactly what they're doing raise ACD's with the longer muzzles with huge ears so she could still be an ACD cross just with Pitty markings.

Be VERY careful & train, train, train this dog. I'm sure she is wonderful but ACD's are a no nonsense dog & were bred to NOT back down. Add to that their jaw power & then the jaw power of a Pitty your dog needs to be trained extrememly well.

Also ACD's have a barely suppressed urge to round everything up & that means nipping since they were bred to keep rogue cattle in line in the Outback.

My big red male has been kicked by our bull between the eyes & just shrugged it off. It actually mad him angry. I have also seen him pull a 1500lb cow down by her nose so that she would mind him when he's asking her to do something.
TRAIN, TRAIN, TRAIN.

Even if your dog is not 1/2 ACD, train, train, train.

Enjoy her though, she looks like a sweetie!!!

Cute pup! Thank you so much for adopting a dog.

I'd believe a dingo - pit before a Carolina dog. Carolinas are located on the east coast, and not at all popular because they are nearly feral (strong tendency to be shy) and not an easy breed to own. Take a shy dog across country and manage it all that ime? And the people were abusive - strange for a rare breed fancier to release a C-dog to such people.

It is awfully fun to research breeds and speculate on the origins of our pets. Whatever the case, enjoy your pup and train it well!

I'd guess that your dog is part Besenji as well, they are closely related to the Dingos of Australia, but also to the Wild Dogs of Africa.

She's a total cutie though, whatever she may be, just enjoy her while you can!

Best of Luck

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU8xF

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

There is no way to predict w/a mix and it is highly unlikely there is dingo as it is illegal to export them from Australia or to own one in the USA unless you have a federal permit.
