Undoubtedly. Not perfect, but better. You only have to look at the fact that the least religious countries in the world are also the most peaceful, prosperous and morally progressive to see the evidence for this.

Yes, I think it would. So much of the misery in the world seems to be caused by differing religious beliefs. Saudi Arabia uses extreme religious beliefs to oppress women, as did/does the Taliban. There were the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, the witch burnings, the dark ages.
I don't understand how religion comforts people or they feel it makes them better. I don't know why believing one myth makes you a better person but not believing it means you shouldn't be trusted.
Ever hear XTC's "Dear God"? Quite an excellent song. Sarah McLachlan also has a version that's quite intense.

i too, would like to see 'humanity evolve beyond all this religious BS' as you say
but i just don't think that many people are ready to let go of 'god' and religion
the world can be quite a scary place, full of injustice. not to mention the blackness of death
people need to believe in an afterlife, where all the world's wrongs will be righted, evil people punished and good, innocent people rewarded
it is true that many wars, and hate crimes, are fuelled by religion. that is truly to be condemned. nevertheless, religion can have a benevolent purpose- it provides comfort and promotes contemplation and reflection.
religion seems to be a part of human nature- all societies have tended to worship something, whether it be the sun or 'god'. perhaps it is because we just cannot contemplate being on our own- we need a leader to look up to and guide us.
yes, it would be better if we could realise that leader could be us, ourself. if we followed our own moral code, instead of some prejudiced, outdated bible or koran, i think society would be better.
but i don't think it will happen anytime soon, so we need to tolerate and respect other's religious beliefs (as long as they do not incite hatred)
in the meantime, we can wallow in our own smugness that we have 'freed' ourselves from the captivity of religion, and that we are strong enough and independent enough to live without it!

I agree with you that religion sucks big time. Don't like John Lennon though or what he stood for.
But I would like to point out that being truly born again by the water and the Spirit is not a religion. Few find the truth but many go about their business making Christianity a business and causing much grief to the true message.

Some European countries are approaching this state already.
Atheism in North West Europe is booming and the Scandinavian countries are a perfect example of how a whole world would operate without the imaginary friends that this race has created.
Delete the fantasies. Promote reality.
Everyone would be far better off.

If it got there naturally? If religious modes of thought and supernaturalism in general disappeared on their own? Yes.
If it got there by force or any form of coercion? If you merely substituted a secular belief system for people to accept as uncritically as they did religious ones? Emphatically not.
It isn't religion per se that is the problem. It is the uncritical acceptance of dogma. Be it Christianity or Communism, Wicca or White Power. All of it is at the very least harmful to understanding of the world, at worst, actively destructive.

The world would be better off without religion especially the religion of Islam, but I exclude however Christianity from this list because it is not a religion it is a relationship.

Absolutely not!
Without religion, 70-80% of history's wars would not have been fought, and millions of deaths would have never happened. All those people would have continued breeding, and the world's population might be five to eight times greater by now!
We wouldn't have the resources to support all those folks!

No, because those who make other people's lives miserable through religion would just find another way to do it, if religion didn't exist. That's the kind of people they are. Religion is just a tool in their hands to enable them to gain power. If it wasn't religion it would be any number of other things, it wouldn't matter in the least.

Religion is mans way of trying to reach God.
The REAL THING is Gods demonstrating to us that He has reached down to US thru the sacrificial death of Christ on Calvary.
We can do well without "religion". We cannot survive without God.
The trouble and fighting is due to mans rebelling against Gods plan and purpose. We live in a sin cursed world and the only HOPE is the SIN BEARER. Have you BELIEVED in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ as Gods only solution to mankinds rebellion against Him? If not, why not?
