I think it comes from the largely discredited doctrine of replacement theology and dispensationalism. Somehow some Christians theologians got too smart for themselves especially Scofield who wrote the once very popular Scofield reference Bible. Perhaps it was one of the subtle manifestations of the sin of pride that caused them to forget that Christianity was started as a sect of Judaism and that the Bible teaches the following.
Ephesians 2:11 Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called "the uncircumcision" by what is called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by hands-- 12 remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility 15 by abolishing the law of commandments and ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, 16 and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility.
17 And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. 18 For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. 19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.
Gentiles were "added" to God's chosen elect. They didn't take over or supplant the Jews whom God continues to save.
Romans 11:1 I ask, then, has God rejected his people? By no means! For I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, a member of the tribe of Benjamin. 2 God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew. Do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he appeals to God against Israel? 3 "Lord, they have killed your prophets, they have demolished your altars, and I alone am left, and they seek my life." 4 But what is God's reply to him? "I have kept for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal." 5 So too at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace.
Romans 11:25 Lest you be wise in your own conceits, I want you to understand this mystery, brothers: a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. 26 And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written, "The Deliverer will come from Zion, he will banish ungodliness from Jacob"; 27 "and this will be my covenant with them when I take away their sins." 28 As regards the gospel, they are enemies of God for your sake. But as regards election, they are beloved for the sake of their forefathers. 29 For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

That bible verse is comparing many different types of Christians. Once you become a Christian it no longer matters if you started as a Jew or a Gentile. It isn't saying that Jews and Gentiles are the same if they aren't Christians.
The verse also goes on to say there is no difference between a Christian that is a slave or a free person. Obviously slaves that became Christians often remained slaves, so the statement isn't trying to say that they were identical to a free man, but that to God and other believers we are all to be treated the same way.
God is amazing. He loves a mentally handicapped person as much as he loves the straight A student. He loves the truely homely and disfigured person as much as He loves society's most beautiful.
And what prophecies are you talking about? I can't think of any that are linked to this particular verse.

I believe you misunderstand who the 'gentiles' he is spekaing of are. If you will search out Pauls references he gives regarding the prophet Hosea when spekaing of 'gentiles' you will see he is speaking of the House of Israel. Israel was split into two Houses, House of Israel and House of Judah. The 'jews' and 'gentiles' in question are House of Judah and House of Israel respectively.
Remember Rom. 9:3-5 The adoption, covenants, promises, etc do not pertain to canaanites, Egyptians, Philistines, Jebusites, Africans, South Americans, Chinese, Japanese, etc.etc. BUT ISRAEL and their descendants wherever they have migrated around the world, Europe, Great Britain, Ireland, Canada, U.S., Austraila, etc., basically what is commonly called Anglo-Saxons (Isaac's Sons), Celts, and kindred peoples like Spartans, and so forth.

Romans 2:28 tells us that what is going on in blood descent[the physical] isn't important, but it is what is in our soul.
if you are a blood descendant of Abraham;that doesn't
mean you're born again.most of those died in unbelief.
if you are a physical Jew or a Gentile[not physically related to Abraham]and GOD gives you a new RESURRECTED soul ,you are then a SPIRITUAL JEW.
this is a saved person.
you can be a christian in just name,and then you are not saved.
when a person has a spiritual rebirth he is BORN AGAIN.
he is a spiritually ALIVE CHRISTIAN[and JEW].
it is at this point that they are the same in what matters--and it is not blood descent.

I gentile can't be transformed into a "Jewish follower of Jesus," because there is no such thing. Jews do not follow Jesus. You're speaking in oxymorons.

The verse means that there is no difference between a Gentile Christian and a Jewish Christian.
There are still differences between those who accept Christ and those who do not.

they aren't transformed into jews nor the other way around... it means they are seen equally by God and God does not judge them according to who they've been but who they are in Christ...
notice it also says there is no male or female and obviously there is no change there...

Christ Jesus makes in Himself one new man (Eph.2:11-22 below), the church of God (1 Cor.10:32 below), His living body (Col.1:24 below), from BOTH the Jews and the Gentiles who believe in Him as their personal Savior.
In Christ Jesus (individually, as well as collectively) we BECOME a “new” creature (2 Cor.5:17, Gal.6:15); we BECOME the church of God (1 Cor:10:32, Col.1:24 below).
Eph.2:11 Wherefore remember, that ye [being] IN TIME PAST Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
Eph.2:12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
Eph.2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
Eph.2:14 For he is our peace, WHO HATH MADE BOTH ONE, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition [between us];
Eph.2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, [even] the law of commandments [contained] in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain ONE NEW MAN, [so] making peace;
Eph.2:16 And that he might RECONCILE BOTH unto God IN ONE BODY by the cross (Eph.2:14 above), having slain the enmity thereby:
Eph.2:17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
Eph.2:18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
Eph.2:19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
Eph.2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner [stone] (1 Pe.2:6);
Eph.2:21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
Eph.2:22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
1 Cor.10:32 Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God (1 Cor.1:2, 1 Cor.15:9, Gal.1:13).
Col.1:24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for His body's sake, which IS the church (1 Cor.10:32 above).
